The Official Tigers 2011 Thread

The Tigers 2011 season started today. The first transaction was resigning Brandon Inge for another two years with a club option in 2013. I'm kind of so/so on this. He's a great fielder and a poor hitter. A great guy as a utility infielder / back up catcher.

If the Tigers are looking at him as a starter, the infield looks like it's locked with Avila at C, Cabrera at 1B, Sizemore at 2B, Peralta at SS and Inge at 3B. With Austin Jackson in CF, it looks like the Tigers will just need to decide on corner outfielders, though it still looks like it might be Ordonez, Boesch or Wells.

Waiting for the Winter Meetings in December for trade season.

Dude that a horrible lineup , last place here we come.Inge blows as well as sizemore ,avila is not a MLB catcher, boesch started fast and we c how that worked out lol ..

I'm gonna go to bat for Inge (pun intended).

First off name another free agent 3rd basemen with the fielding percentage he has for the money? Inge played quality third base and hit .247 with 13 hrs and 70 RBI's. He would have drawn decent money on the open market and for a franchise player that the fans love it's a good deal. Don't forget the Tigers question "Who's your Tiger?" well I can tell you Inge is one of the tops guys. Remember it's not just his play, it's his draw. Inge is a VERY well liked player and is a great face for the Tigers. This guy has heart and he loves the team and community.

My motto anyone but Inge!!m Remember third base is a power position 13 hr wont cut it and he bats what 7-9 hole.pathetic. Sorry just not a fan just cause he makes some good plays at third don't make him worth 11.5 for two years. that's less than what he made last year so don't think to many clubs would be beaten down his door.

True, but you don't have to bat him in a power position. Again what other 3rd basemen can you replace him with?

Ideally, Inge would be best in the 8 or 9 spot in the line up. What Mark is missing is that many of the Tigers best teams have had weak hitting 3rd basemen. Ray Oyler, Aurelio Rodriquez and Tommy Brookens were good field, no hit players. Anyone available as a free agent would have been very expensive compared to Inge. And as Matt mentioned, he's a fan favorite.

Of course they could have gotten Scott Rolen for around $7M and put Danny Worth at SS and saved around $6M.

Sorry. Oyler was the shortstop. Don Wert was the 3rd baseman. He barely hit better than Oyler, who hit .135.

I don't see anyone on the list I'd lavish any money one.

don wert...lol...couldn't think of his name. speaking of no hitting, remember eddie brinkman? when he played for the senators he hit about .200 over his whole career. ted williams became the manager for 1 year (i think), and steady eddie hit .280.

or, maybe you're thinking of tommy matchick. he was more of a utility player.

well....looky what i dug out of the closet. vintage '68 tigers team photo. story is that management didn't catch mclain and fred lasher?? till well after the photo session was over. they had to re-gather everybody to re-shoot the team photo and were extremely pissed. at least bill freehan obviously thought it was funny.....anybody else ever see this pic?

So we've got oodles of Money coming off the books who do you guys want to be brought in? i'd be extatic if we could land carl crawford but we'd have to break the bank to get him

We should just hire in the yankee's team. Then we could at least make the playoffs.
