The Official Tigers 2011 Thread

looks like another 4 place finish to me.. 7-8-9 hitter brutal , mags wont play a full year and we already seen that boesch will start fast then fizzle and sizemore should never see a MLB field.

I think they need one more hitter. But the team that pitches best will win. A lot is going to depend on Phil Coke being a starting pitcher. I'll admit I'm a little underwelmed with the moves. But I don't think if I was the GM that I'd have spent the money that Crawford, Werth or Dunn got. Heck, I don't know that I would have spent the money that Martinez got.

It won't happen. The Royals will want a King's Ransome to get him. And they should. Long term, would I trade Jacob Turner, along with two or three other propects, along with maybe Scherzer? You don't get a Zach Greinke for nothing. I also don't see K.C. trading him within the division.

Of course I never thought we'd get Miguel Cabrera and Dontrell Willis (thinking he was still got back then). I'd rather see a solid #5 hitter other than Victor Martinez. The pitching staff, if healthy, is as good as any in baseball other than the Phillies. Now if the team doesn't get shutout...

Renewed my partial season ticket plan the other day... Maggs re-signs... I'm looking forward to the 2011 edition of the Detroit Tigers.

2B - Scott Sizemore

What about placing Will Rhymes or Danny Worth at 2nd? It was proven all year long that Sizemore was a fucking catastrophe and both the plate and the field.

Scott hit .224, and wasn't much better in the field. It was like watching a Brandon Inge who couldn't hit... OR field. He had a .955 fielding percentage in 40 games at shortstop.

In 54 games, Rhymes has 191 at bats, and batted .304. His fielding percentage at 2nd in his 53 starts was .984. Impressive. 89 put outs, 150 assists and helped turn 37 double plays.

Danny Worth batted in 39 games with 106 appearances. He hit .255. He also played 12 games at 2nd base (not his natural position) and had a perfect fielding percentage with 14 put outs, 31 assists and 9 double plays.

EITHER PLAYER would do soooo much better at both the plate and field than Sizemore.

During the September call up, Sizemore hit better than .300. The Tigers feel his broken ankle hadn't healed enough for the sping and early season. He tried to play thru it and it didn't work. I think Rhymes will make the team, but on the bench. I think the Tigers could have used the money they gave Peralta to get another hitter and keep Rhymes or Worth at SS. None will ever be confused with Polanco.

Sure it would. But don't you think the Royals would want either Scherzer or Porcello (or both) to replace him?

No. Reason being, as they have stated, they have several promising prospects coming up. They are more concerned with help up the middle than pitching right now. I'd be more comfortable with a pitching staff with less question marks. Besides, Comerica Park is very friendly to Greinke.

Dan, it's not happening. You're not going to get Greinke for just prospects. I know you live there and see what the Royals do on an everyday basis, but if I was the GM, I'd wanted at least on MLB starter to replace him along with numerous prospects (3 or 4). He and Soria or the only two pitchers they have. And Dombrowski won't trade Turner.

Out of the Free Agents that are left, I'd like to see the Tigers go after Bruce Chen (L) as a #5 starter, and either Vlad Guererro or bring back Damon. I think they still need another bat.

What about Gorzelanny?

It's Opening Day in New York. The game is on ESPN at 1:00PM. The Tigers have had a great spring and finished 20-14. And that means squat. With the exception of left field and shortstop, I really like the team. If Peralta and Raburn get off to slow starts, look for Danny Worth to get recalled from Toledo and either Boesch or Casper wells to be the regular left fielders.

I really like the pitching staff which should keep the Tigers in the race the whole way. In fact, it's because of the pitching that I like them to win the division over the White Sox and Twins. Should be a fun season. Planning on getting my Tigers/Rays tickets in a few weeks for the 4 game series in August. I hope they do better here than last year (4 game sweep). Sock It To 'Em Tigers!

I'll be down in Detroit next Friday for the home opener. I didn't get tickets this year but decided to just loiter in a parking lot with food and 'what not'. I've got tickets to about 10 - 12 games already, and I'm sure I'll end up at a few more. I have high hopes for this season, but we'll see how things pan out.
