The Official Tigers 2011 Thread

I've only been to 1 home opener and that was in 2000 when they opened Comerica. 32*, freezing rain and a biting wind. My buddy and I stayed for 4 innings and then left for the casino. The Tigers won 5-3, but it was just too cold to enjoy it.

Last year wasn't quite that bad. Mid-low 40's with a 10-15 mph wind coming in to right field. It rained on and off all morning but held off long enough to make it through the game. I hope next week is better, but we'll see.

Well, the Tigers aren't exactly off to a fast start this year. The saving grace is that the only team in the Central Division off to a fast start is... Kansas City. Verlander is making his second start tonight. Hopefully he'll get some run support.

Bastards! I left the house in the bottom of the 9th figuring I'd be home for the bottom of the 10th.

Oh, and the Royals beat the Twins and the A's rallied in the 9th to tie the White Sox at 4. Looking like a good day.

Finally been playing some good baseball. Pitching over the past 4 games has been dominate. Justin Verlander gave up a few HR's but at least they where solo shots, Brady Penny with his best start in 3 years, and then Scherzer just doing what he did last year, pounding the zone with good fastballs, and using it to set up his change up. Even Porcello had a good start out in Seattle, was extremely happy to see him have two good starts in a row.

Jackson looks like he is starting to come around, Rhymes/Santiago they are doing ok. Rhymes I think is finally starting to run into trouble at the MLB level. Because last year he batted over .300 in almost 60 games in the big leagues and he is now starting to slump. Raburn, well the guy is a strikeout machine right now. He has had a few hits but is swinging at everything. Maggilo I cannot wait for his contract to be up, I was not happy when we brought him back. So far he is hitting .197 with 1 RBI and has already had problems staying healthy. So far looking like 10 million down the drain. Cabrera guy is still a fucking beast like I knew he would be. Boesch this kid is impressing the shit out me this year. Last year don't get me wrong I knew this guy was a good hitter but I knew why he was getting so many hits at first. He was a rookie and still new to teams. After they figured out how to pitch to him it was all over. This year Boesch is doing something that he did not do last year. He is holding up when he is behind in counts, watching pitches, and not swinging at the first pitch as much. He is definitely maturing as a hitter.

V-Mart was starting to hit better but the groin injury was a definite set back for him. Avila has been doing a great job behind the plate so far this year. Has been a little lack luster throwing out runners so far but his defense has been good as well as his bat. Inge, well still not producing offensively and still making dumb errors. Sounds like Brandon, can make the dazzling play but fucks up the easy one.

Some players I have been impressed by so far, Phil Coke. Erase that bad start in Seattle he has been great this year as a starter. Brain Virreall(not a clue how to spell it) He has one of the best pickoff moves I have seen since Kenny Rogers. Ryan Perry, finally has some control of his fastball. He is starting to throw more first pitch strikes which is really helping him set up his slider. Benoit/Papa Grande, could be the best set up close in the MLB this year. Guys are doing a great job in the 8th and 9th.

Currently 12-10 right now have to go up against a guy tomorrow that is a top 5 pitcher in the league. If we are going to win tomorrow we cannot screw around with RISP, because you do not get many chances against Felix. He has a great 2 Seam Fastball, great slider, Mid 90's fastball, and a change up to compliment the other three. Expect some swings and misses tomorrow. Lets hope Phil Coke does not start out the game tomorrow like he did in Seattle with a bunch of walks and could not find the zone with none of his pitches.

Lets make it 5 straight tomorrow!!! GO TIGERS!

Agree 100%!

In my eyes Leyland was totally responsible for that loss, Max Scherzer should have never started the 7th inning!

Would it have mattered? A grand slam in the 9th is still 4 runs.

Everyone says fire Leyland. Who would you hire? The guy does fine. Before Leyland got here, the Tigers hadn't finished over .500 since 1992.

It might, would it have got to that point if they hadn't scored those 3 in 7th - it seemed to change the dynamics of the game. My guess is Valverde would have been pitching in the 9th and the grand slam probably would not have happened - but thats just my opinion.

I dont know who I would hire. Is it all his fault, probably not but someone needs to motivate this team.

Like Ozzie Guillen? These guys are professionals. They got beat. It happens. I still think the Royals and Indians will fall back. The Sox and Twins are behind us. It's a long season.

You are probably right, I agree the Indians and Royals are probably more of an anomaly right now.

I will continue to support the team and hope they can turn it around. I will also continue to watch and go to the games but I think it will be interesting to see how they handle the next 10 games.

Delmon Young got off the bus with the Twins, then is told to go to the Tiger dugout. He's been traded to the Tigers!

I saw them win last Saturday in Kansas City on my way in from CA. I bumped into and chatted with Dave Dombroski on the way to my seat near the Tigers dugout. I'm going to Sunday's game, leaving for home on Monday and stopping in St. Louis that night to see the Dodgers-Cards game.

Nice to see Inge back! A homer and a double! He just needs to keep his bat and head in the game.

Wasn't at all what I expected when I heard they were bringing him back up so soon. Glad he did so well last night, lets hope it's not just a fluke and he keeps playing this well. You're not a good ball player when you do well only so often.

I wish I had seen the whole game last night. 10-1 sounds a lot like bad pitching, not going to jump to conclusions obviously since I only saw a few replays.
