Cop shot and killed in Oak Park

I'm sure the sentence guidelines for killing a police officer in the line of duty is greater than killing a civilian, Maybe some of our legal scholars can chime in on the minimum & maximum sentences for this felony. I don't think Michigan has the death penalty.

If convicted, he'll get the usual life without parole. Bring on the death penalty for convicted murderers.

Don't quote me on this but I believe murdering a police officer is automatically life in prison.

I hope the prosecutor makes the wise decision and decides to charge him as an adult since he decided to go through and murder an officer of the law which job is to protect and serve. Justice needs to prevail and lock this piece of scum up for life, he needs a lifetime to have the burden of what he did on his mind. I'm not just stating this because in this case it was a Police Officer but if you take the live of a human being you should have plenty of time to think about it in the slammer. Why did he decide to cause a struggle with the officer and discharge the firearm and take his life? We will probably never know but the 16 year old boy that was being arraigned today in the yellow jumpsuit will.

I hope his mother realizes no matter how much she boo hoo's and cries and screams and prays to the lord to forgive her son and bring mercy on his soul that it will not bring back Officer Mason Samborski father and husband.

Sick fucked up world it is

But, he's a good kid?

Good kids don't drive around at night without a license, good kids don't get into struggles with Police officers, good kids don't get convicted of misdemeanors before age 18, good kids don't KILL, my question is if he's a good kid that what is a bad kid?

Whats a bad kid? you just defined one......

I am no way siding with the accused, but I've done 2 of those 4. I guess I wasn't a good kid, but I grew up to be an "OK" adult. Maybe it was the ass beatings from my pops after doing both worked

I think today's parents haven't done a good job of raising kids. Too many kids raising kids. My parents weren't real old when they had me, but it they weren't 15-16 like alot of parents today. How can you raise a child when you are a child yourself?

I saw a perfect example of that over the holidays with my wife's family - 18 year old single mom with a kid and 20 year olds with 2 kids. They don't parent, they just treat the kids like dogs - yell and threaten. I'm not saying I'm the best parent in the world, but you have to be somewhat responsible and mature to properly raise a child.

For all you know (which you don't) she is praying that Officer Samborski's family be comforted during this time of enormous grief. Are you?

I highly doubt that she is.....

Also addressing your second question "Are You?" as a matter of fact I am and will continue to do so.

I grew up in Oak Park. We lived at 9 Mile and Coolidge for about 10 years. It wasn't a bad neighborhood, and it was worse in my area then it was at 10 and Greenfield. Shit happens no matter where you go, so I understand why the officer felt safe escorting him home.

The police station(9 mile) isn't far from where he was, and neither is the State Police Department (10 mile/Service Dr). To blame a city for what happened is flat out stupid...to say that it was coming to you because it was a bad area is even more stupid. That is like saying you got raped because you had a short skirt on. No one has the right to touch you, and for someone to go as far as to kill an officer or any human for that matter is the one to blame. As well as the one to take full responsibility for his actions. We should be happy he turned himself in, and that we aren't still looking for some kid who can harm or kill again.

I worked for the City of Oak Park for years, and knew a lot of police officers in the area. It is very sad to hear about this, and I hope justice for once is served. May he RIP, and may God watch over his family and friends.

So its not ok to jump to conclusions on what the cop did wrong but it is ok to jump down the throat of the kid and the mom? Come on, its a terrible thing to happen but can we slow down on the hatred/conclusion jumping on BOTH sides?

So now the mother is a POS who doesnt care about anyone elses family? Give me a break. You dont know anything about the woman.

One article sheds the light on the subject? I still want to know what went wrong, why there was a struggle. The kid could have simply panicked. We dont even know what gun was used.

There's still wayyyyyy too many unknown factors for people to be coming down on this kid and his family as hard as they are. If it turns out to be a straight up murder....then so be it. Let the kid rot. But many kids make mistakes in life before they are 18 and even MORE adults make mistakes AFTER they are 18.

Im not on either side, im praying for BOTH families as they both need it, once the case is closed i'll put my judgement on it.

Ya, he'll get some time like Nathaniel Abraham did and when he get's out he'll do some more stupid shit.
People that do stuff like this are friggen animals, that's all they are.
I KNOW I would of never thought about shooting anyone when I was 16 let alone do it!
Bad parenting, way to go lady you raised an animal that is a danger to and drain on society.
Thanks, be proud of your failure!

I completely agree. But something about this case doesnt make sense. Too many details not given for a clear judgement from me. If its an apartment....arent there neighbors for witnesses? So was the partner in the car while he took the kid up?

I dont understand. I would think there would be a struggle at the scene of pulling him over....not 30 minutes later when the cop is dropping him off. Something aint right! (not saying the cop is guilty, i just dont understand how things went from one thing to the next)

I'm trying it and my wife as well as others say I act like I'm still a kid:grouphug:

I bet the cop told the kid he was gonna take him home. I assume the kid thought he would be "dropped off". Next I'll assume that when the cop and kid got there the cop got out and was gonna have a little talk with the kids mom. I bet that is when the kid freaked out. He didn't want the cop to talk to his mom. So he fought with the cop ..........

* This is just my assumption on how / why things went down the way they did.

When she says her boy is a good kid and would never do something like that on the news I really don't believe she has any remorse

Terrible thing that happened R.I.P. I just don't understand what happened, if the kid was patted down, which I am assuming he was, and had no gun. How did a trained police officer let a 16 yo get his gun?

THAT makes zero sense. I sure hope you dont have a kid one day that does something stupid once or twice. Every kid makes mistakes....some bigger than others....some are just caught by parents and not by the law. How you can be so tough on the mom like you know the woman or know ANY details is beyond me. That sort of thinking isnt "helping" society either bud

Very possible this sort of thing went down. I really dont see the kid getting upset enough to cause him to FIGHT an officer just because the officer is going to talk to his mom. Something tells me there had to be a 2way conflict....ofcourse the officer didnt deserve to get shot but i just cant see this being a "bad kid goes crazy takes the gun of a cop and shoots him" kind of story. The kid doesnt even look that big....i'd expect a huge 16yr to over power a cop and literally take his gun.

But again, everything is an assumption. We dont even know if it was the cops gun or another gun.
