My friends dog was shot and killed by the Birmingham police last night.

The unfortuante thing is from what I understand a dog is considered property (like your your car) and thus it does not receive the same treatment as a human, so basically they can kill your dog and there is not much you can do, you might get a little money and when I say a little I mean a little, but I will bet nothing happens to the officers since it was a dog.

This is correct

...unless it's one of THEIR dogs...then it's treated as 100% human. Attacking a police dog is the legal equivalent of attacking a regular police officer.

This is also correct.

My wife works with these cases everyday here in Philly (She's a vet).

We had a similar case here in Milan a few years ago where it appeared
A local officer shot and killed a dog that simply didn’t warrant it.

There was a very big community out-cry back then. I would like to
hear the other side on this one – I’m NOT saying there is any justification
for what happened. I would like to hear the officers reasoning (if any).

If the officers are as wrong as this report is – then they should be held
accountable for such a reckless act.

.

Will never happen over a dog, barely happens over a person

I remember that...He executed the dog.

What if you have an invisible fence?!?!?! Not that I do but what if?? Can a cop walk up and shoot my dog on my porch?

Very sad .. :( Sorry, but I've lived in the country my whole life, someone called the police because a dog was laying on a porch? Screened? I'd think since they shined the light on the dog, it was late? Nothing like gunshots at 2am. :S
Pardon me for prodding.

:werd: So the dog was on their property, but barking? And they cornered it as it tried to run into the back yard... shot it twice, followed it, shot it 2 more times, and hosed away the blood and left. Sickening.

just saw the Channel 4 news story. Not much more info than what is here. Still makes me sick the way Police conviently bend the truth in their favor time and time again.

yeah they said the dog was being aggressive and thats why they shot it. Thats about all they said. fucking PIGS!!! Funny how the eye witness accounts dont validate that statement..
So a dog on the porch of it's owner's yard... barking... is "being aggressive"

Fuck them.
