2017 Lions football thread

Lions lose and save themselves the embarrassment delaying their regular season by one week . Awesome. Another memorable season is in the books. :)

:lol::roll:
Seriously...... you couldn't even beat a team with a shitty record?
This season was all smoke and mirrors

Bengles were what 5-8 going into the game? I didnt do much reading but im pretty sure this had playoff implications. So, big game. Lions and Stafford did what they always do in crunch time.

Caldwell needs to go, the team can't put it together under him to go and take a win. He sucks. Born and raised in Michigan and been dealing with this shi# for 42 years now

I'll step up and admit that this season, and the second half in particular have been a big disappointment. Stafford was good, not great. He needs to be great. Caldwell was mediocre and he needs to be good. The O-Line, while admittedly plagued with injuries was a massive letdown and the run game... well, yeah. If the Lions don't take a RB in the first round, I'll probably lose my shit.

Look at the teams in recent years who have made big strides. Who did they take early? A running back. Dallas with Ezekial Elliot, Jacksonville with Fournette, LA Rams with Todd Gurley, the Saints with Kamara, even Carolina rebounded with the addition of McCaffery etc, etc. The game plan is there for everybody. A good QB becomes a great QB when you can actually run the ball.

I totally agree. I still think they should have tried a little harder to get Adrian Peterson. I still think they should if he becomes available.

Nice trick play on that 2 point conversion, if they played the season like that they might've done something. Looked like they wanted to win today.:baddancin

They've had winning records in 3 of the last 4 seasons. Not exactly 6 and 10.

Caldwell is a very nice man and I feel bad for him but he's a terrible game manager. Sometimes he looks like a squirrel being asked to explain particle physics when there are decisions to be made i.e the challenge flag he inexplicably saved to wipe down his desk on the way out. The only thing I really hope for in a head coach is they get someone who tightens up these dumb mistakes like having 9 guys on the field. The fact these guys just absolutely cannot get a yard on 3rd and short is also insane. I would assume that I personally could have the same success rate running out of the backfield trying to get 3 feet as they did last year. I don't even know that that's a personnel deal; Caldwell's teams just can't rush the ball. I'd take more turnovers on offense if they played riskier ball.

Team was close this year. As soon as Ngata went out they became wet tissue paper against the run, so that needs to be fixed. Especially if Ansah isn't back. O-line ended up recovering somewhat down the stretch but Robinson was fuckin atrocious at times.

Playoffs next year! Mark it down!

Pretty much. I like Caldwell, I think he did a good job here. Schwartz won 29 games in six seasons, Caldwell won 38 in four, 3 out of 4 winning seasons and playoffs twice. He basically doubled his predecessor's yearly wins....

... but there were also glaring issues like the challenge failures, failing to have the right personnel on the field, slow starts and not thinking Aaron Rodgers was going to throw a Hail Mary in the last play of the game...

my biggest issue is that they make this move without having somebody definitively better already lined up, and that's S.O.L par for the course

Nah, I think Quinn knows he can get a good coach. Detroit is, and this sounds crazy, way more attractive than a lot of these other jobs right now.

My only fear is that he brings in one of these Patriots guys and they realize that the Belichek/Brady/Referees/Videotapes combo is 90% of the secret sauce. Especially if it's Patricia and Goodell issues a secret mandate for the refs to fuck the Lions in every single game over the t-shirt incident.

It is the most attractive based on GM and QB in my opinion. Andrew Luck's health is in question. Eli Manning is going on 50, but they do have a top pick in the draft. Trubisky is still kind of unknown, as the Bears could really run the ball well. AZ is a dumpster fire and the Raiders look to be selling the farm to get Gruden.

The Lions biggest drawback is ownership. But the Ford's have always been loyal to a fault to their GM's and head coaches. Pretty much a guarantee you'll get 4 years.
