I know another team that has a coach in his 3rd year and had a losing record before he came.
Bill Callahan 2007 5-7
Bo Pelini 2008 9-4
Bo Pelini 2009 10-4
Bo Pelini 2010 5-0 although they haven't played anyone with a defense

So what's Michigan's excuse now? Pelini isn't brining in any top 10 recruiting classes or anything like that but the results still jumped dramatically his first year and have continued steady improvement (even if 1 more win and the same number of losses doesn't seem like it, if you know the whole story you know it was a better year). In fact, I bet RRod is brining in more highly touted recruits than Pelini is.

Your point? Maybe RRod is the wrong coach maybe he'll find a defensive coordinator that doesn't run the 3-3-5 with inexperienced/unskilled players in the secondary in a run heavy league. Maybe by the time Denard/Forcier are seniors the offense will make the defense irrelevant. Or maybe none of that will happen and he'll get fired and we will have to start over and suffer through Bobby Williams and John L Smith eras before it gets sorted out. As state is proving though, if you keep switching coaches you'll eventually find the right one.

My point was just that someone brought up Bama's improvement under Saban and Saban was made out to be some god-like coach that you can't compare others too and well, other coaches are turning teams around in 3 years or less.

Sabans not a God the bear was a god saban just a great coach but hes allowed to get the players he wants

But you didn't say that, you asked what Michigan's excuse was now. Totally different points.

Michigan is stuck in the "gotta find another Bo" Bama did it for years and we the fans suffered, heres a news flash Bo was a good coach for the big ten and his time he wasnt a great coach, Michigan needs to let RRod run his program and you will win but blocking recruits will kill any team, michigan needs to leave him alone because if they fire him, nobody will come, harbaugh you dont stand a chance, les Miles, you dont want him.

Offense scores Points Defense wins championships, you build a winning program defense first

I was thinking that as a similarity in coaches that quickly turn around programs. They build the defense first. Saban and Pelini are both more defense oriented where RRod is clearly more offense minded.

There's some people ***cough***Justin***cough*** who think Ron English should come back to be the defensive coordinator. Our defense is bad enough without our coach going into the Prevent defense every time we get up by 3 points.

I agree the RichRod needs more time. The question will be how long do you give him. If the team is no better than mid-pack in the Big Ten in 2012, do you can him. If he's stuck at 7-5, or even 8-4, but he's no better than 4-4 in the Big Ten and MSU and OSU is still kicking his ass, do you can him? And if you can him, can a coach like Harbaugh turn the team around in one year if most of the players are finesse type players vs pounding the ball down someone's throat? Will Harbaugh even be available? And if he isn't, who do you go after?

As for going after the 'fringe element' type player, I don't see where RichRod has to dip into those type of players. Teams such as Northwestern and Stanford are putting winning teams on the field and aren't making excuses. A lot of teams are recruiting good players without a rap sheet.

As for C.L. Rucker, I'm behind Dantonio suspending him. Rucker is 21, so it's not a case of underage drinking. And while there isn't much difference between .07 and .10, you need to be smart enough not to be in that situation. He wasn't and now he's sitting. I'd also think it'll be more than one game. I hope he's back for Iowa.
