Woodward

I'll agree with that to a point, but the younger guys now are much more brazen about acting stupid. None of the groups I ever cruised with were spinning out in front of potbelly's trying to exit the parking lot or weaving in and out of traffic. Sure, we did a little street racing- but everyone was sensible about it for the most part. Two years ago, I saw two cars up on the median after swerving curb to curb in the same night. One was a Benz, and I think the other was an Audi. Same with the diesel guys....rolling by and smoking everyone out isn't something that car guys do to people.
As far as meeting up, I'm game as soon as I get my truck back on the road. I missed all last year, so I'm primed for a good summer!
Point made. That is over the top.

Maybe us old guys that have been doing this a while should go down there in force and tell these "kids" what the score is. Maybe there would be a chance of getting through to them a little if a bunch of "old dudes" showed up in cars they can only dream about having and filled them in on how they are just fucking it up for everyone acting like a bunch of dumbasses.

I've never seen any of that going on WW. I've only been up there three times in 2yrs though.

Exactly. I'll admit I did some dumb shit in my late teens and early 20s but I used "good" judgement as to where I did dumb shit. Never in a parking lot full of people.

+1 ..Woodward is a flippin joke and I miss the Gratiot days too ..

I'm they type that enjoys parking and watching the cars cruise.

For two summers before our first kid my wife and I would go every Friday straight from work and park at potbellys on good weather days and grab some food from them and pull out my lawn chairs and always sit right on the grass and never once did the cops say anything.

It's a bummer to lose a good spot, even last summer I was one of four cars and got kicked out.

Woodward is still the best road to cruise on. I wouldn't recommend antagonizing idiots with little to lose showing up in a nice car. That could backfire, quickly.

The problem, as always, is picking and choosing who gets in what lot. Very difficult to cull the morons from the herd without encountering problems. There isn't a real big wealth of lots to park in either.

We were no different when we were 20 yrs old. We just weren't driving tuner cars. I was around for all the late night cruising/street racing stuff 20 yrs ago. And I'm sure some of you were at some of the exact same places doing the exact same things as everyone else was. Everyone but us thought we were a bunch of punk kids and jackasses. And it's the same now. The only difference now is the punk ass kids have fart can tuner cars and we've all gotten older/wiser.

Anyone who pretends they weren't an idiot when they were 20 is delusional.

So enough about crying over "punk ass kids". Where/when are we going to meet up? I'll give those punk ass kids one thing, at least they are out driving their cars.

Im almost 30, so im not old enough to know what it was 20 years ago. I can tell you from going almost religiously every Friday and Saturday for years and years, that the drivers/people are a LOT worse. When I started going in early 2000, it was not common to see people driving 80-100mph weaving and ripping through traffic. Hell, i dont honestly think i can think of anyone doing that then. I've only been maybe 5 times a year the past couple years, and all you see is people doing 100mph weaving through cars near Potbelly and Dougans Pub. All these kids want to bump loud music, do donuts and burnouts everywhere they can to try and impress people. Starting fights, littering and leaving all their trash everywhere they go, pissing off whoever owns the property they are on. I never did any of that stupid crap with my Camaro when i started going. My car was a mid 13 second car when i first got it, the following couple years i made it a legit low 11 second car and drove it EVERYWHERE.( I was 21-22yrs old then) I never weaved or blew by traffic. If i decided to drag race it was either done on another street away from Woodward, or it was far far away from any congested areas. I never did burn outs in front of people, or wanted anyone's attention. I wanted to cruise out to Woodward and hang out for a few hours, bull shit with people i knew and meet new people. Go cruising somewhere else later that night to watch a few races, or to race someone myself. Ive just watched the overall demeanor of the people out there now go down hill and it sucks.

Hell ya. I remember that same thing. People everywhere on blankets and in laws chairs with coolers out there having a pop, just watching the cars. I would do that from time to time with a few friends too. Cops were even pretty cool about everything as well. IF you got pulled over because you and your buddy wanted to do a 1st and 2nd gear pull off of a light, all the cops ever did to us was a verbal warming or impeding ticket. But that was it lol

Gratiot is completely dead now on a Friday or Saturday night. Yes I know the Rosville cops ruined it a few years back.... Maybe those cops that ruined it left that department or retired? I say lets start cruising Gratiot again!

A few of us still hang out in an area north of Normandy Its a nice mix of older and newer cars-NO RICE- if you know me you know who we are.

Well, the quickest way to let it be taken over by people with a different idea of how it should be is for like minded people like us to just stop showing up. I know when I was younger, I would look up to the other "veterans" to see how things are done, and follow suit. A little respect between enthusiasts goes a long way, so maybe if we talk to them, instead of just shunning them, things would work out better. Young and dumb is entirely different than disrespectful and reckless. One will get you a conversation and guidance, and one will get you a dental visit.

Unless you have a rather large group of cars with ya, it'll be boring and dead still. Back a few years ago, there were 5 of us that drove just to Gratiot every friday and sat to spur some casual cruising. Never succeeded.

The problem with new era car guys is they don't have any mutual respect for the people that are old school. They look at old hot rods in a different light as we do and don't seem to appreciate them for the hard work that went into them.
I just stay away from them. Because i swear the next time I hear a young white kid use the term "nigga" every other word i'm going to go off and get arrested for beating them the way their parents should have. No respect I tell ya.

u tellem ni... !

Well said sir!

If the respect thing worked across the board it would work, almost as they would be embarrassed to act stupid and drive in a bad manner.

We have the same problem, all-be-it on a much smaller scale, here in Lansing. People being absolute dick bags ruining it for the rest. I'd say our biggest issue lately has been TRASH though. Literal TRASH. People leaving bottles and napkins and wrappers all over the ground. Clean that shit up fuckers!

You on here bro? Lol not sure why i have that group on my facebook either.

Right,I get so sick of seeing that lol...Along with all the bashing on peoples car, mostly what I drive (Mustang) ...Im no at all a hater on any type of car someone drive but I seem to find myself letting the faggots have it which ends up in them deleting the post so I kinda get something out of it lol ..Im a 100% car guy and love looking at all of them..I tried parking in Potbellys (think thats what its called) twice and after 3-5 mins,I leave ...I never got out of my car because im scared i'll hit someone so in a nut shell,I don't think i'll go back to Woodward ...Real shame because I love how the area is,park almost anywhere and your a few feet from the street...Them kids really fked things up....Wish there was a place with a older group to hang out with on the weekends..I have my 5 year old with me all the time and hes a car nut also :) ..And no,I have him home by 9ish pm and hes in bed by 9:30-10:00 pm...Im back out the door riding by myself down random roads just to go for a ride which is getting old so gotta find some guys to hang with..
