I thought people put Chevy motors in Fords because they couldn't afford to buy the whole Chevy.

Can someone who says its cheap give me a breakdown in cost.....

The real deal is the abundance of cheap aftermarket parts for the LS engines. I personally dont like seeing an LS in a Mustang but I do understand it.

So, all supporting parts aside, look at the initial cost of the engine (assuming you only need to swap an engine) You want something that is light, V8, easy to install, cheap aftermarket parts etc.

4.6L (2v,3v,4v) or LS. I say we can compare 4.6L DOHC 4V and the LS. How much power does the LS cost at a junk yard? $500-1500? What about an DOHC 4V? 2-3k?

I would compare a SBF 302/5.0 but the technology and age range isnt even an option. You wont find a junkyard pushrod 5.0 (ready to drop in and add a turbo etc)

What do performance parts cost for the LS or Ford Mod motor? Ill use cam(s) as an example. LS ($400-600 maybe) to the $1500 for the DOHC Ford.

Now lets look at ease of install..... Its a no-brainer... the LS is WAYYYY smaller and easier to fab up. Easier to work on as well.

this is coming from a Ford Mod motor fan. I can see why people get discouraged about modding a 4.6L or (new) 5.0.

In most cases, LS engines don't need any aftermarket parts but maybe the cam and springs,,,,,,, we all use the stock oem blocks, cranks, rods, heads, rocker arms, gaskets,,,etc etc...and go 9's on motor............its nothing like building a sbf or bbf motor where its all aftermarket parts...in most cases..

The other problem if you make it old 302 vs LS is that the LS isn't going to split the block in half at 500 HP. And the mod motor is going to shit it's crappy stock rods and pistons out of the bottom of the oil pan if you are buying the sub $3k '01 or older 4V motor.

Advantage LS over all of them just in what you can do power wise on a stock short block without instantly blowing the thing up.

Why the fuck did I put an old 4V motor in a car. No wonder I struggle with the motivation to finish it.

From my understanding you can get a good running 5.3 for about $400-500? and probably around $1000 into the valve train, cam? I have been really tossing around the idea of a 5.3 in my mustang but by the time you make everything work and fit are you really saving?

The older mod motor stuff has really come down in price since the Coyote stuff is becoming popular.

I'm a Ford fan at heart (my 302 put down 486hp to the tire a couple of weeks ago) but I understand the argument in favor of the LS packages. If Ford designed and built an engine platform and didn't F**K with if for 10 or 15 years it would have the same kinda durability and aftermarket support that the LS's have. I'm sure it will only be another year or 2 before Ford redesigns the 5.0 so none of the 2011-2015 parts will work with the new platform thus screwing the consumer and the aftermarket part suppliers.

Can someone who says its cheap give me a breakdown in cost.....

K member Going to buy one either way
Motor Already been discussed, it;s cheap
Trans either platform needs a built one to last
Fuel either platform will need a supporting system
Electrical Again, either platform will need supporting mods, alot of options for LS from carb to stand alone, but the factory stuff works good too, far better then EEK

I wanna see how cheap it really is.

Most of these parts you're going to buy with the level of build these motors are capable of, so the cost differential is minimal, i believe.
