Fuel Economy of Duramax vs 2014 Silverado 5.3....

And get worse fuel econ than Ford V8

Based on what?

I can PROVE you wrong. I get better mileage the higher octane tune I use. I towed to west branch last weekend with Livernois 87tow tune. Am getting 15/16. Swap to the Livernois 93performance tune and I get 17-19. And I'm not easy on the pedal, before my boost gauge took a shit, it was rarely in vac while driving.

Previous truck was a twin, except was a short bed, 5.4 would get 14-15 no matter what.

I was looking at a LB7, but scared to death of them after researching the injector problems. Supposedly, those are the best years for fuel economy and they obviously respond quite well to a tune, bolt ons, etc.

From what I've read/heard the LB7's do get the best economy. A guy I work with has an 02, he had the injectors replaced under the GM warranty and hasn't had a problem since. I have a buddy at the dealers and he said the new ones get terrible economy compared to the early trucks. Have the injectors been done on the LB7 you're looking at? If you want one just keep looking for the one you want. I wanted an LLY and kept looking till I found one that I wanted. I looked for a while before one popped up with lower miles(72K).

My 12 ecoboost does worse economy wise than the 5.3 suburban I replaced. Nice truck, plenty of power but mpg is lacking.

My son has a new F150 4wd with the coyote motor. Great truck. Gets unbelievable mpg for what it is. Towing capacity for a 1/2ton truck is amazing. From what I understand the ecoboost mpg is great until it the boost starts getting used. Just like any other turbo motor, under boost conditions it requires a lot more fuel.

Driving the same route to work my suburban would average 17.2 -17.5. The truck gets 16 - 16.5 same roads and speeds. It pull a lot better though. I guess I just expected I could have the power and better economy than a V8. For how much I tow the 5.0 might have been a better choice.

I average 13-15 overall and the majority of the time I'm pulling a 28' trailer at ~75 MPH.
I got 19.8 MPG last night on a 75 mile round trip to visit my folks driving the speed limit. FWIW

Been watching my average economy for last 300 miles of combined (mostly city) driving and I'm seeing 14.5. Not bad for a low 12 second truck that drives like stock. The diesel I drove really impressed me. 19.5 same conditions no problem. Nice :-)LB7 - bad injectors = $2000 and an assload of work every couple 2 or 3 years for 19.5.....no thanks. 16, 17 on city/combined driving from newer diesel.....no thanks! Get 2wd silverado (even older one) with 5.3 and get 17 same driving----way cheaper to buy, maintain and fix. Would love to have the pull house down towing of the diesel though....

The 06-07 LBZ trucks are the I think. Our shop has 5 of them, NEVER had an engine issue in close to a million miles racked up as daily drivers/haulers. They all have a Hypertech tuner on them also.
