2014 Ram 1500 Offers Best-in-class Fuel Efficiency with Industry’s Only Light-duty Diesel Pickup

I do like the looks of the Ram, they are really making a name for themselves in the segment, but just as you said, giving trucks away is just one of the many reasons they have gone from Chrysler, to DaimlerChrysler, to Fiat....... You don't build long term value in a truck when you give them away at the start. Ram has a nice truck, they should let the market come to them, instead of begging them to come to them. JMO, I'm just a car salesmen, so if Ford decided to do the same I'll be on board

That is actually pretty wise. Did Matt leave his computer logged in again?

Love to see you pull that much safely

I feel the same way. It can pull that much but it won't be an enjoyable ride. If you need to tow that much a time or two sure, but if you're pulling that every weekend it's a joke imo.

My old 04 Silverado(1500) was rated at a tad below 9K I think, I didn't even like pulling my 24' travel trailer with it long distances. I'm always amazed when I see 30' trailers being hauled by Trailblazers or similar type trucks. It can't see how it can be an enjoyable ride.

Get me a 9400# trailer I'll do it. After doing GCW testing, I'll trust my Chevy to do it. GM does thousands of miles of testing at GCW (max weight truck+trailer). Dunno about others but the tow rating for a GM truck means it can tow that load up and down the longest grades in the US without failure.

Dodge does it too, Im at CTC weekly for hitch meetings , they beat the heck out of our hitches during testing

We used to do it at ford too. They would over load them and run the test. Weren't fun to drive but handles it

And my truck *can* get 22. Then I troll around town and it drops to 15-17. But for that to average 30 over a trip and 23 overall is damn impressive.

its very impressive. but 20 is average, but then again its a truck(my Fi50) not a luxury car with a big trunk, Give me the diesel in a long bed std cab landscaper special and well talk

Pricing is going to determine how well this sells.
If the engine is a $5k option or more, it will be hard to justify the cost vs fuel savings . I think that's what is keeping others from entering the light duty diesel market.

Price is what kept Ram from using the 5.0 cummins. They said it was gonna be same price for motor as the big motor. I thought I heard this was gonna be just under a 3k option, which would work.

But Nissan is using the 5.0, so I wonder if it was price or who owns VM motori that was a bigger factor.

Well Fiat just bought out GM's 50% stake..

Especially since diesel is still sitting near $4 per gallon, and gasoline is approaching $3.

A good friend of mine is going to buy one of these. He has a recent Hemi Ram now.

Also, Nissan is coming with a V8 diesel that has more power and torque than my 1st
Duramax pickup.

yeah I have seen the new Titan with the diesel, its pretty agressive design and power for a light duty truck.
However I think it will be priced quite high so it might be an "in between" from light duty and the real heavy duty trucks.

I do think this is a great option for chrysler and I hope the other manufacturers follow suit as well.
$2800 option is pretty tough but the motor is a 250K motor. Now how the TRANNY will survive is the big question.
