Do Not Deal With Brad O'Hara/oharaautomotive

Mental note:

Don't buy or sell with ohara or npete. Neither will do the right thing.

If I sold someone anything and they found it was fucked in some unseen way. ..... Come back and get your money, I'm sorry. And I don't even own a fucking business! I guess it's I'm my upbringing and my circle of friends, we all walk alike

Second opinion for a cancer diagnosis maybe.

I always find it best to offer someone's money back no matter what (and I've done this at least a few times even if nothing was wrong but they just changed their minds). It's not worth it to not give their money back if you plan to buy and sell stuff in the future. If it was a fair deal, you'll find someone else willing to pay about the same price. If it wasn't, then you shouldn't have made the deal in the first place. You can't put a value on a good reputation. When someone I know (or trust from their other dealings) is selling something, I will pay more simply because there's less risk in my mind of something going wrong. And if it does, I know they'll make it right.

So in the long run, being a standup guy even if that might not seem "fair" in an individual case will actually get you more money for your stuff and save you time.

BOOM!!

Yep. I sold a Ford Ranger to a casual friend a few years back. He had it for a MONTH and the engine blew. He called me up, said some of his friends told him that I'd had problems with the truck. He was upset and felt like I had screwed him over.

As far as the issues, I had one instance of low/zero oil pressure, shut the truck off, a MM'er trailered it home for me. I changed the oil, drove it for a week, changed the oil again and then continued to drive it for a few more months. I never saw any other problems. I assumed it was either a fluke with the oil pressure gauge or a blockage that got cleared up with the back to back oil changes. Like I said, I drove it for another 2-3 months daily. He had it for a month.

Even after all of that, I felt badly. He found a replacement engine and we split the cost of the engine. Because that's how I roll.

Have no dog in this fight but it just seems like buying and selling used parts has gone to shit lately.. From a buyers prospective there are too many people that either don’t really have the parts or they try to hide something wrong with them.. Honestly when I sell something I want the buyer to be happy and feel like karma will bite me in the ass if I try to pass off junk.. I don’t like getting screwed so I’m not going to do the same to someone else. Also the new trend of parts flippers is turning me WAY off on selling stuff, don’t give me a sob story about how you really need this so you can finish your car to make your dying Grandpa happy and put it out on every site for quadruple what you paid for it. (Usually people that have no post on the site but they will PM YOU)

Buying used parts is always a risk. I bought a rebuilt JPT/PA C4 that turned out to be F/d up. I tried to get the seller to help me out with the cost of the repairs but he ended up leaving me to fend for myself. Detroit Gearbox is fixing it as we speak. There are more details involved than what I feel like getting into here. Basically, It's BUYER BEWARE when you are doing deals.

Thankfully I've had really good luck. I bought my heads used from TransAmTom in Canada and that was an excellent transaction and a great set of heads. I bought my 30# injectors from a fellow MM member, pushrods, poly locks, rockers, etc. from camaroz28 guys, and a used cam in the past. Not to mention PCMs, wheels, tires, and countless other parts from people on the internet... A crank and pistons and tons of other parts from Mike Greenan (my1994z28, RIP).

I've never been ripped off by a guy. I'm optimistic that the weasels are few and far between and that most of us are honest members who don't sell junk.

No matter how this ends. The damage is done to all parties.

I know when I sold my parts here, specifically my Trans and Stall converter, I didn't know that the trans and stall were paired with each other at the time and sold them seperately. I found out later that they were paired and I immediately purchased the stall coverter back from the person who purchased it and gave it (free I believe) to the person who purchased the transmission. Been a few years, but I don't remember asking for more money.

Like others have said, the value of reputation is priceless.

So when can we expect the heads to be returned to Brad with a full refund?

As soon as I receive the heads back from Ron/Roush, he can have all parts returned to him in even better/cleaner condition than when they were given to me. All for the same money that I originally gave him ($1100).

But, as we know, the hold up won't be on my end of the deal.

Still amazes me when I see "business owners" who, in this current age of the internet, social media and "viral", are too stupid to recognize the harm that comes from a bad transaction... or conversely the benefits of an outstanding transaction...

Imagine if this had gone differently, and O'Hara had said "Man, I feel awful. I thought that I covered my bases and yours too...but sometimes shit happens. I'll make is right, whether that means repairs or a full refund."

Then you'd have an 8 page thread about how great O'Hara is to do business with and how you can buy from him with confidence. That's more valuable than any banner ad, sponsorship, etc and could have resulted in new business. Instead, you have this. If anybody was to ask me "what do you know about O'Hara Automotive."... I'd have to steer them clear at this point. Could have been exactly the opposite.

Like I said... Stupid

My expecation in buying from a business is different than buying from a person. "Not knowing" doesn't get a business of the hook in my book. The reason you buy from a business instead of craigslist is so stuff like this doesn't happen.

My rep is worth more than a few $$$$.

Well said. I agree 200%. Whether people believe it or not, MM has a HUGE following of people who are silent viewers and rarely/never post. Word spreads very quickly, even from the quiet ones who only watch from afar.

Sounds like they were just at Gregs cylinder heads for a flow test, not a teardown and inspection of heads.? I hate to see his name potentially get drug through the mud..

But did you notice how Brad had no problem implying that he did? When he referred to Gregs and said "Which I won't deal with again."

No limit as to how low these guys will stoop, even let the mud sling on other people.
