Do Not Deal With Brad O'Hara/oharaautomotive

PaxNovi 5.0, if this situation is anything like you reported,
there is NO WAY I would simply “eat the loss”.

Small claims court was made for situations like this. It is
cheap to do & very efficient. There are pretty much only
3 things to do.

1) Try to resolve the situation yourself before going to court (document everything).

2) Gather all the info, data, photos, professional opinions & documentation in writing.

3) File a small claims court claim if the offending party does not respond. Do not
tell anyone you are “suing” the defendant, it can make it a little harder to serve them.

Remember, a lot of cases are settled before you go to court, because when some
people are served the court papers & see they are actually being sued, they make
good & settle real fast!

Everyone says they’re going to sue someone, but very few do. It is not a pleasant
thing to do or go through, but it is extremely satisfying to “right a wrong”, win and
get your money back (plus court costs.)

I wish you the best outcome in this.

Thank you for the advice.

I'm trying to address #1 on here, but given Brad's demeanor toward me on the phone, it doesn't appear we will be able to resolve the situation among ourselves. #2 I have in progress right now. I'd rather not have to do #3, but I most certainly will if I have to.

I have Brian Mitchell's cell number if you want it. I bought a set of headers from him, I met him through Sidewayscoupe and NOBOOST, they are friends with him. He is also on Facebook, he owns a shop. If you want the number I can PM it to you, he might be able to shed more light on it.

I think I might have to do that. Call Brian up and ask him when he sold the heads, if he informed Brad that they needed repairs when they were sold to him. Can you PM me his number please?

I'm hearing of a lot of people getting screwed over lately. Myself being one of them.

Bill, First you are trying to make this sound like I was giving you a pressure sale here. This is how it went, Came into my shop had a message from Bill wanting to talk about the heads for sale. Before I could return his call get a phone call from him on my cell phone, Stating that he wanted to come look at the heads. I told him I just listed them for sale and did not have the chance to pull them off my engine yet. He stated he works near my shop and that it looks like he is just a few minutes away, I told him no problem if he wanted he could come look at them, and the car was running he could hear it run. I proceeded to pull the car out of the shop and before I could park it he was waiting. I offered to remove the valve covers however we just removed the breathers to inspect. I told him the info I had on the head and the run down of what I was told about them. And here it is, I seen them listed on YellowBullet by Brian Mitchell, I contacted Brian and he told me they were around 230-235cc on the intake runner and near 60cc on combustion chamber and flow in the 330's by .600" lift, and 250's on the exhaust, but past .700" lift they fall off. He also told me the heads were at Dan Rawls shop getting a valve job done and freshened up. I paid him for the heads and Contacted Dan, I then consulted with Dan on my combination and purchased more parts from him and he sent the whole package to me. I then had them checked by Greg's cylinder heads and flowed on his bench the heads did not flow as well as Brian suggested but they still flowed well and Greg mentioned that these were some of the best SBF head he had on his bench at that time and that most importantly they were Quite on his bench which meant there was very little turbulence which is good for making HP. Greg also checked the valve jobs and basically went through the head for me and checked the spring pressures and installed height etc. to make sure they were good for my cam. Next they went to Holbrook and for assy. I also had them flowed there and do a visual inspection to which I was told they looked good and that the flow #'s were down according to what I was told by Brian but they were quiet on the bench which is a good thing. Motor was assembled I dropped it in my car and basically did nothing with it except run it here and there and do some burnouts with it at car shows etc. I never had a problem with the motor I told Bill that all he would need for the heads was the matching valve springs for his cam and that he should have them checked out as I did before he puts them on a motor after all they are used heads to which he agreed. At this point Bill said he wanted the heads and that he could have the money on Friday (this was on Thursday) I told him that I might not be able to have the time to remove the heads and springs by then that it might be Sat or Mon. before I could have them ready But there might be a chance Fri could be possible that I would have a better idea on Friday morning if we could do the deal on Fri. It worked out that I was able to get the heads off and springs off For Fri so I called Bill and told him that Today looked good but not untill 5-6 pm before they would be ready. I took the heads to my local machine shop to remove the springs and I went back to work. Bill showed up around 5pm and I called the machine shop and they had the heads ready( i did not pay them to inspect, just remove springs). Got the heads back to the shop and Bill proceeded to inspect them, He found some epoxy in one intake runner which was a surprise to me I had not seen it before and was not told of there being epoxy applied to the heads from Greg or Dan, apparently Holebrook saw something and put the bandied on it to which I was not informed. So I chipped away the epoxy which exposed a little bulb and crack. I was pissed I then told Bill that I would not have put this on my engine had I known it was there. I then told Bill he does not have to buy the heads and that if he wanted to walk away from the deal that it was fine I would understand, and that I would just get them fixed and re-list them. To which Bill stated he is still interested just not at the price we had agreed on. I told him that's fine and we negotiated a new price and he also stated that he would get the crack fixed and if there were any other problems with the heads it would be on him to have them Fixed. To which we agreed he paid for them put them in his car and the deal was done.

Now to the comment about having receipts I bought the heads and had the inspections and assy. work done about 3-4yrs ago since then I have lost track of them.

However here is a video of the heads being flowed on Greg's bench that he posted to his facebook.

You guys can take this for what it is. I have bought parts on here and other web sites I have gotten burned on some and made out good on others, this is the chance you take with buying used Racing parts. The one thing I do not do is go on the internet and trash someone's Character and Blatantly call them a Lair which is what Bill is doing here. Hell I can understand Bill's situation and that he is upset over this. Ron Sharp is a master at what he do's and have no problem with him or his work. I don't like someone telling me that what i did was not done. I had three shops check these out got a good bill of health from all three had them on my motor running with no problems, now I'm not saying Ron is wrong, just that Bill knew that there could be other problems with the heads, I'm no head expert but when I buy used parts I always have them checked. Bill saw something wrong with the heads to which i had not known of. Bill new there could be other problems and still purchased them.

The part that is emboldened is incorrect.

I said I would get the crack we found fixed (which we both agreed would be $300-$400 to fix) and other than that if the heads needed to be freshened with a simple valve job etc., then that would be on me.

I'm not going to argue back and forth on the internet. I presented the situation exactly as it was. Since you won't do anything to rectify the situation, people have now been warned and can do as they choose with the information.

My last point: You admit my version is correct which sounds totally different from your version yet the one comment is incorrect SMH.

These are used racing parts no warranty was expressed or implied. We negotiated a price you were comfortable to buy these knowing there could be other problems. You did not have to buy them I even told you that. Now I'm no head expert but yes we both seen the crack and if you did not buy them they would be somewhere getting fixed right now. You can call Brian, Dan, Greg and Holebrook if they can remember but they were Brian's heads and the rest checked them out. Needless to say I will not deal with any of them again, but You don't see me on here crying about what they missed.

What I don't understand is why did Brad get all defensive and say that all of us Motown guys are the same? If you have no reason to be on the defense they why act in such a way?

In Brad's defense,
I have gotten burned on some and made out good on others, this is the chance you take with buying used Racing parts.. I agree with that.
Very true. Unless they were misrepresented.
I'd just let a judge decide..

Nowhere in my post did I admit anything. Just refute.

Of course you're not "crying" about it. You have my money. I'm out both money and cylinder heads.

Brad the best thing to do is refund his money in exchange for the heads. You sold him junk - plain and simple. You expect everybody here to believe that 3 professionals with great reputations (i've been referred to Gregs by a dozen people) all missed that these heads were junk, yet the first guy he took it to saw it right away.

Not plausible.

Refund his money and take your heads to the scrap yard or sell them as they are - probably worth about $300.

big Wheelin, I have not had good dealing on here which has turned me off to selling stuff on the site, there was a problem before with a C4 trans that I had sold on here however it was resolved and I felt I did the right thing even though I didn't have too. I did not mean to trash the site sometimes things get said when you are angry that shouldn't and I apologize to Motown Members for that. Really just seems like a few bad apples ruin it for the rest. The Funny thing is I do think Bill is a good guy I meet him 2-3yrs ago and actually bought some seats off him.

The real problem here is he is pissed that he has to put more money into the heads than what is expected and then get's his butt all hurt and threatens me that he will go on Motown Muscle and trash my reputation if I don't comply with his demands. That's basically what is happening with a lot of these Forums. They become a tool for guys like this to use to try and get their way. Buy his logic and what seems to be some of the guys posting on here that He or I should Sue Brain, Greg, Dan, and Holebrook for these heads. SMH

Why not refund his money if you were willing to do so in the beginning?

if he wanted to walk away from the deal that it was fine I would understand, and that I would just get them fixed and re-list them.

Incorrect. As mentioned above, and from "expert" testimonial witness. There is no way 3 shops that you took the heads to missed all of this.

Nowhere did I demand you to do anything either, on the phone or otherwise. After you repeatedly laughed at me and basically said too bad, you'd do nothing to rectify the situation, I said "We aren't getting anywhere here, so I'll let Motown sort it out. I wish you luck with your reputation. Goodbye." Then proceeded to hang up.

not taking sides or anything.......but Brad and your self saw an issue when you picked them up before money was exchanged.. that was a red flag to walk away if you felt uncomfortable or tell him you would like them checked out by a professional before you bought them, or ask for the paper work of his clams of inspection.

If you come to my house to buy parts that are not on an engine and you can get a 360 degree view of every angle of that piece, we see a possible issue, and you still decide to buy it. its now your problem. I wouldn't refund you your money either. not being an asshole or taking sides or anything, but you gotta look at it from his side also. it was one of them deals you should of walked away and asked an expert instead of being talked into a sale or thinking the deal was to good to pass up.

If he knew of the issue and did not tell you and you dident see something when you looked at them but found a possible issue later, that would be a different fight, but you saw clear as day that there was a crack and took a chance. the chances we take with these parts sometimes bite us in our asses.

I've delt with Brad, never had bad parts and still have them on my car to this day.

The point though is that Brad is saying he had no idea of the condition of the heads. Obviously a person without an eye for that stuff isn't going to notice so you can't really expect pax to look at some chunks of metal and notice the damage.

Brad is trying to sell the idea that 3 reputable shops flowed and thoroughly inspected these heads and did not notice the damage, yet the first guy that pax took it to spotted it right away. It's just highly unlikely that he didn't know that the heads were damaged.

Nobody but Brad knows the truth as to what he knew and what he didn't when he sold the heads, but what do you think the probability is that guys who deal with heads all day did not notice this damage but the first guy he took it to spotted it right away? Not very likely I would say.

the facts though:
1. brad and pax stated clear as day that they both noticed the crack.
2. Pax worked out a better deal because of said crack (sounds like they dropped 3-400$ off the original price spoke about)
3. you buy used at your own risk, this ant auto zone.
4. Brad had his stuff inspected because he is no expert either. if pax wanted proof, he should of asked for a detailed inspection report. when you look at a car with tons of work, you ask for receipts and build reports, not take the guys word right? well i do at least.
