I don't need to tell them anything because I EARNED a full academic scholarship and haven't paid a dime...but I am not narrow-minded enough to assume everyone is in the same situation so I was talking about engineering students as a group.

The UAW will bring about their own demise and I will not feel sorry for anyone that loses a job, even the good ones because they have sat idle and let their comrades abuse the system and are just as much a part of the problem. Have some balls and stand up for what is right instead of just trying to cover your own ass.

That is the problem...people are only concerned about themselves instead of seeing the big picture and that is that letting those slackers have a free pass is not only going to eventually hurt those workers themselves, but also the other workers who did nothing about it while it happened. Live as a group, die as a group. I'll be celebrating that funeral!

You don't have a clue.....you think people are standing idly by while the ship sinks? where do you get your knowledge? the local media? they are about as accurate as you come off as, so it would make sense....big three and the uaw have been screwing the pooch together for a long time, and you don't change the culture or the rules in two intertwined multi million(uaw)/billion(big 3) dollar big businesses in a year or two. i can understand your contempt for the 5 to 10 percent of folks who use and abuse the very accomodating rules that have been in place thus far, but to say that things aren't being done, to say that the other 90 to 95% doesn't care and are standing around with their thumbs up their ass, and to want to celebrate those people losing their jobs is ignorant and heartless........

i'm editing out what i originally wrote here, it was a little harsh....but seriously, don't you think it's best to know a few more facts before gloating over the economic downfall of thousands of people and their families?

At first I wasn't going to get say anything but after reading all the post i had too.The union has took a turn for the worst with some workers taking advantge of the system,but you have and always will have lazy people that will get away with not working union or not.I think its a little harsh to say they all need to lose their job,when the union is doing the job the way it was set up its pros always out way the cons.
 
Also there are a lot of company's that screw their people becase of lack of info.after working with and without a union you will get to see the whole playing field ,and as far as the company losing money and cant stay afloat it wasn't the five or six guys at the bar or sleep on the job that caused OH WE MOVING TO CHINA,OR SOME THIRD WORLD COUNTRY TO PAY FIVE BUCKS A MONTH:bs: :893Rant-S :893Rant-S :argue: :893Rant-S

Wow, that was a lot of reading. I too am not a fan of unions. They were useful way back when workers were uneducated and exploited. Now days workers are a lot smarter and the union has become obsolete and overpowered. I am pretty sure things will not remain as they have been. If the union is going to survive major changes will be necessary. First and foremost not protecting slacking workers and actually firing people. It really chapps my ass how people can't be fired because they are union. Who cares! If they are not doing their job and obviously don't want to let them go. Why keep them around. I worked launch at an OEM plant and there was one guy that constantly complained about his job. In my mind I kept saying "then leave"! The only reason he stayed around was for the pay. But since he didn't care he wasn't careful about his job either. And that does not do well for product quality. I think they should be payed based on performance and throughput. Just my 2 cents.
