Well, DBK your statement should piss me off but because your so uninformed as to what I do at my job I will let it go. IM sure a chimp let alone you would not make it a week at my job without killing yourself or someone else around you. For that reason alone is why Im paid that much.:pow:

The best part? The total head-in-the-sand approach to the consequences. What are all these people going to do when it all collapses and they won't get paid $15 for what they used to get paid $50?

I thought grown men didn't go around bragging about how much money they make. Maybe that's just professionals I'm thinking of.

Also, what you're saying is your normal rate is $32/hour.....are you sure that's worth bragging about?

I thought this was a civil debate about the necessity and/or effectiveness of the UAW?

If you read it right that is triple time as its a Holiday. Im skilled trades and no I really dont think the chimp could do my job. You may make it if you keep your hands in your pockets and dont touch anything. Well I have to go to work now see ya.

The UAW is more then just line workers. There are the skilled trades.
 
Im sure all of you if you were offered a job that paid that much and was in the UAW you would turn it down because you think you should be paid that much.

How many chimps can repair a large machine or run electrical? It's only $96 an hour on a holiday - it's normally $32 per hours which is roughly $66,500 per year. That's decent money, but that is hardly out of line for a skilled worker.

Look, obviously I'm kidding. I know there are some pretty complex jobs that go into the production of a motor vehicle. But my man wanted to be funny and "rub it in" that he was going to get paid to sit at home, or get paid $96 an hour, so I let him have it. It's that attitude that deserves complete mockery.

It may be worth rubbing in today while you're getting the fat paycheck, but 3 years from now when Ford and GM are both bankrupt, the government dissolves their legacy obligations, the union is further broken, and the entire state of Michigan is fucked even further because we rely on billions of dollars in supplier sales and services that are ruined, it will be decidedly unfunny.
 
P.S Yes, people all over the country turn down the higher wages the UAW would inevitably pay every year. The UAW has been trying to organize all over the south at transplants for 2 decades and failed.

Since 1980 union membership has dropped about 66%.
 
Exactly! When there are no plants in union states because they can actually pay what the job should pay in non-union states I'm sure we'll hear a bunch of crying from former leeches but TOO BAD SO SAD!
 
anybody at Ford have you noticed the calander for 07 is only to Feb? why because all the holidays will be changing with the contract Neog in Feb. I hope all you union guys enjoy tomorrow because it will be the last one along with the christmas to NY shut down

My only problem with the unions is that they use the excuse "Why should I have to take a hit when management makes bad decisions?" I guess that would be legitimate if they didn't profit when management makes good ones. They want it both ways.
