Car was stolen...any tips or advise dealing with insurance compny?

Does choice of insurance company play a factor in situations like this?

From all of the reading I have done on forums with similar situations, no. I think the biggest difference is how fast some companies settle with a "fair" amount. The best way to avoid getting short changed is an agreed value from what I can tell. Too late for that in this case though.

So got response today. Mfers

$12k and some chamge is the new total. No other options, if this is not good enough she said we will both get apprisals and goto mediator.

Feel pretty shitty they came up the cost of the appraisal but nowhere near the 15 i want.

Any final tips? Is it worththe risk of being bound to the mediators value?? I could get less? She is sending the moat recent ccc report for me to see

I've been following this thread and I'm hoping it works out. Based on what you've posted here, I don't think $15k is unreasonable for your truck. I'd never expect them to hold their value as well as they have. Best advice if you take it higher is add as much documentation as you can to the pile. The more info you can present to a mediator, the better off you'll be. That might go without saying, but it's the only way you'll gain some of the value back.

If I were shopping around for insurance, I can tell you I'd skip esurance in a heartbeat. Once you get the payout, I hope you shop around and find a company that does a better job of paying out in the unlikely event this happens again.

Sorry it didn't work out like you'd hoped with the insurance company. I've been with AAA as long as I've been driving and they were great the one time I had to make a claim. I was hit by a semi in my 99 Corvette in 2006 and it was totaled. They made me an offer within a day and I refused saying I had several mods (which weren't part of the policy and they likely shouldn't have been covered). The initial offer was $24,000. I have receipts for $10,000 in mods and they came back with an offer of $30,500. I accepted and had a check in less than a week.

My one experience with a major loss was also with AAA. My wife was hit while waiting to turn into our sub. Car was a total loss. After I looked at KBB and did some preliminary estimates, their number came back almost $3k higher than I expected. I used KBB, NADA, and compatible vehicles on the market as a reference point.

I wonder how much the agent you're assigned to and the adjuster you have play into this. When I got hit by the guy running from the cops, my initial agent with Progressive was awesome. A few years later she left and I got 'less angry Rosie Odonnell." I still got things covered, but it was a hassle the entire process and still is.

I think the agents make somewhat of a difference. I had a agent that came out to check out a TA I had which had an electrical fire. He straight up asked me, do you want the car totaled? I can right you a check for $3800 or total the car and after the buyback you'll get $4500 and a R title. I ended up getting a ton of money for a high mileage s-10 I had that was totaled. I hope this works out for you, I've been following...

I'd go to mediation, SS Silverados pull bank, especially a lower mileage one.

take them to mediation. bring in two examples of trucks similar. mediation should help you get the amount they give you up.

for those asking about how much the agent plays a role in this. sometimes they do sometimes they dont. typically as agents we do not get involved in much of the claim side other than submitting the claim. however sometimes we can talk to the adjuster and try and help sway them. it really depends on the company you are with. this sometimes is why it is important to not stress so much on how cheap the policy can be. but make sure you are actually with a good company instead.

How much are appraisals? Does anyone here know a local place that deals with appraisals? Is an appraisal possible with a not recovered truck? I sent them 5 listings for trucks, they said that alot of them were out of my 250 mile range.

that just goes to show you how rare they are to find and why they are more expensive than your average silverado. which you would think they would take into consideration

That sounds like they are finding excuses to not pay accordingly, it is amazing how they have every excuse to low ball and get out of paying and they use everything against you after it is all settled. Keep us posted, I am not sure who would do an appraisal without seeing the truck other than an insurance company. When I had my Grand Am and Trans Am insurance through Grundy Worldwide they did an appraisal for replacement cost based on the pictures I sent them and the list of modifications, upgrades and amounts I paid for the stuff I modified, so it could be possible but highly unlikely.

Within 250 miles is bullshit, it's a limited edition. What happens the nearest one with similar miles was in Nevada, do they call it a V6 base truck then? /SMH

I agree, take them to mediation. This is 2016, having to find local cars for comparison is stupid. It's a limited production vehicle not a house that varies drastically by location.

JFYI; Talked to Mike @ Certified Auto Appraisals LLC. 248-681-1545

$250 for the appraisal. Nice guy, took my info and talked it thru before I decided to fight.

I am learning alot about the insurance process.

So he will add the appraisal fee to their max offer and go up from there. He said if it was a couple $100 then it would not be worth it, but then after we talked he said there is definitely room to get more. He also said that they usually do not end up in moderation, the appraisers can usually work it out w/o going in front of a referee.

My good friends used a Appraiser / Subject Matter Specialist on a flooring job gone
bad. The $450 fee was paid by the flooring company. The Appraiser / Subject Matter
Specialist sided with my friends, my friends got a full $8,000 flooring job refund (and
got to keep the installed hardwood flooring).

Sometimes it works out - but my friends had to really stick to it & fight.
