My one experience with a major loss was also with AAA. My wife was hit while waiting to turn into our sub. Car was a total loss. After I looked at KBB and did some preliminary estimates, their number came back almost $3k higher than I expected. I used KBB, NADA, and compatible vehicles on the market as a reference point.Sorry it didn't work out like you'd hoped with the insurance company. I've been with AAA as long as I've been driving and they were great the one time I had to make a claim. I was hit by a semi in my 99 Corvette in 2006 and it was totaled. They made me an offer within a day and I refused saying I had several mods (which weren't part of the policy and they likely shouldn't have been covered). The initial offer was $24,000. I have receipts for $10,000 in mods and they came back with an offer of $30,500. I accepted and had a check in less than a week.
How much are appraisals? Does anyone here know a local place that deals with appraisals? Is an appraisal possible with a not recovered truck? I sent them 5 listings for trucks, they said that alot of them were out of my 250 mile range.
That sounds like they are finding excuses to not pay accordingly, it is amazing how they have every excuse to low ball and get out of paying and they use everything against you after it is all settled. Keep us posted, I am not sure who would do an appraisal without seeing the truck other than an insurance company. When I had my Grand Am and Trans Am insurance through Grundy Worldwide they did an appraisal for replacement cost based on the pictures I sent them and the list of modifications, upgrades and amounts I paid for the stuff I modified, so it could be possible but highly unlikely. How much are appraisals? I agree, take them to mediation. This is 2016, having to find local cars for comparison is stupid. It's a limited production vehicle not a house that varies drastically by location.
You would be surprised at how much location plays a part in a vehicle's value.
