Car was stolen...any tips or advise dealing with insurance compny?

could an appraiser value a car with out the actual car?? Someone who knows cars better might get that they were only made from 2003-2005...

I do contract work for Esurance, they use CCC to get a valuation number. Without Autotrader comparables from a 2003 Silverado SS, they arent going to change the offer much. The adjusters at most insurance companies know little to nothing about specialty cars. I had one on the phone the other day amazed there was a Jeep Cherokee worth almost 70k.

update:
she said sent her the list from Auto trader and Yahoo cars. Sent her over 10 that showed way more value. She says I cannot use the 2005 as a comparable model, WTF...

I sent some pics of my most recent brake job> She replies you dont have specialty part insurance those wont be covered.

I replied: I know I wont get the value for those parts, but I wanted you to see the condition and effort I Iput into making my truck excellent.

Insurance companies suck...I did not bitch about the rate I was paying, I did not negotiate it down...I paid it. But when its time for them to pay me a fair value, they want to screw me over...

Don't give in, don't settle. They are counting on you getting tired &
impatient. You will only get the fair & correct value if you stand your
ground.

You need to go over this lady's head & demand to speak to her supervisor.
If that doesn't work, go to their legal department. The only way you win
things like this is show them you are not giving in or going away.

You should consider seeking legal advice if this doesn't start moving
towards settlement.

This happened to a friend of mine when he rolled his Grand Cherokee. He hired an insurance adjuster who worked with the insurance co. and got him top dollar from them. Ended up increasing the offer over 4 grand if I'm remembering correctly.

If you're interested let me know and I'll get you a #.

The issue with both of these is that the truck hasn't been recovered. The insurance company has no legal obligation to rate a missing vehicle better than average unless the owner has something to prove otherwise. I can tell you for certain that people every singe day threaten to pursue legal action, and it doesnt make the adjuster flinch.

Who said "threaten"? - I suggested he actually seek / pursue legal counsel.
The rest of my advice stands too.

No one is suggesting "The insurance company has no legal obligation to rate
a missing vehicle better than average" the man is simply looking for a fair
& reasonable settlement.

problem is 99.9% of all insurance companies have "binding arbitration" clauses you get a lawyer they will force arbitration

just keep saying NO, the person from the insurance company will eventually bump your case to a supervisor who will want it handled

I totaled my 2000 chevy C3500 in 2004 ish First offer from insurance was 12k, I settled a month later for 15k and I kept the truck. EFIsixpack currently drives it

Their response will be to send a representation letter and that they can no longer speak with you. Then you will have the long wait. For your own sake just be persistent but polite, it will go much further and quicker.

This was the only thing that I found that worked with Progressive, I spoke to supervisors, managers did not matter who.

Got the response, get it appraised privately or seek legal counsel. If you do get it appraised your going to be at least another 3 weeks out.

OP, maybe in the future if or when you get another specialty/ collector type vehicle, look into "agreed value" insurance. You say what value you want for the vehicle and pay the premium for that value. If it gets stolen/ totaled, etc. then you get whatever value you agreed to.

It seems like they are trying to bone you. They should have a way of seeing it was an SS and that they are valued higher than an lt or ls.

as an insurance agent. i give you this advice. dont just give in. they are likely not using the same vehicle to compare to yours. a normal silverado is not the same as an SS. ive also owned one and know they are worth much more. a friend of mine just got almost 20 for my old one with 90k on the clock. truck was in perfect condition however.

just keep refusing their number and send similar ones just like yours with a higher value of what you would be comfortable taking for the truck. do not send them one with a lower amount. eventually it will get bumper to a supervisor who like stated above will work with you more.

did you get a copy of the ccc report?

When my daughter's 2004 Taurus got totaled, I sent for sale ads from Autotrader.com to them until I got fair market value for her car. It took two or three times, but the figure went from $2700 to $4400 by the time it was done. I just wouldn't accept taking that kind of devaluation for here car. Hell, with the way the market has changed, I ended up spending $5200 to get a similar, but slightly nicer same year Taurus.

Roadrage-PM sent.

It has not been recovered. I dont expect it to...unfortunately these trucks are desirable

I used 2005's when I did my research, so she wont take those...even if they are the same, too old I guess. I did have equally as many 2003's and 2004's on the list. She forwarded them to CCC and I hope to her back today/tomorrow.

you need to find some actual comparables of the same vehicle.. lol that looks more like the value of an actual plain silverado not an SS
That is what I had thought, however the NADA Guides list an SS and they are a couple grand short on retail value but the data that you are providing is what it will cost to replace the truck with a comparable truck.

However, just because NADA values it at less doesn't mean they do not sell for more. Just like the others say, just keep declining the offer. If they just mail you a check, don't cash it. Once you do that you are accepting their offer.
