Project code named "The TURD".

This is just the beginning phases. Feel free to give your opinion, this is all my work out of my garage. The welds look good other than being flux core wire and crappy cell phone picture. Criticize or compliment I want to hear it.

Thanks for viewing !!!!!

Props for doing it yourself. Maybe a weld engineer can chime in about the flux core though. I havent really heard of anyone using this type of welding for a chassis application. I take it that you are using a 110v welder?

I have a 220 and a 110, I wasn't happy with weld penetration using the gas for some reason. Honestly after they are blasted it is hard to tell the difference. maybe a professional welder can see it but I cant. I have 2 welds side by side with one with gas and the other with flux core wire and after blasting the look close to identical. I am not looking for a chassis cert on this car, it is more or less going to be a little quicker than my old turd. Once the cage goes in it this car will be rock solid. If it runs 11's I'll be happy, I just wanted to build a whole car from front to back and not have anyone do anything other than the machine work on the block.

boomer were have you been? have not seen you post in a long time?

anyways congrats on getting the coupe build finally going. can't wait to see the finish product!

I have been working my ass off. I recently made a career change that is actually giving me a bit of freedom.

It is a slow going project, I will continue updates over the summer.I have spent the last 6 months patching panels and just really started playing with the chassis. I am going to make the engine near my old combo but less cubes and a bit smaller cam. I am looking for reliable and fun.

ok, I didnt know your intentions if you wanted this car to cert or how fast you were planning on going.

Lol, I am calling this car "practice". I have learned a few things just doing this little bit. I will probably attempt something bigger down the road. Like I said if it is any faster than a low 10 I'll be shocked. This may end up with a 302 for my wife in a couple years. We'll see how well it works out.

Updated progress !

A little change in plans since I found a little more rot in the car. I should be ordering the frame rails in the next week or two and then the rot will have to continue to the front of the car. It is all going to be street car stuff........:icon_psyc

Wow, you are going to have some work ahead of you. Keep the pics coming.

We'll do, I just couldn't cut the Blue car up to get it where I wanted it so I figured "start over". Then it came down to a coupe with more rust than metal, so now it has led to this. I've been doing my homework over the years so the inevitable was bound to happen, that and having people taunt me that I couldn't do it on my own.

A little more cut away today, dang rust :ohwell: Sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures put you get the point of what I'm doing

Boom I have seen your work and actually seen YOU do the work. You need to start your own shop.

Thank you but that takes money, I don't have enough of it. I have to keep borrowing equipment to get stuff done. After I finish this one I may do a car here and there for people or just to sell, I really enjoy this type of work so it is a win-win situation. Finding a job doing it is even harder, everyone wants experience and my backyard skills never seem to be enough.....
