I acquired this car on 3/15/08. Here's few pics to give you an idea of what I have to tinker with. I decided to make a project thread here too. Hope you like pics!

The first task was to get it running. The car sat outside for ~9 years, so I wanted to make sure the engine/trans were sound prior to digging into the body/interior. I ended up spraying the cylinders down with some fogging oil. siphoned out 9 gallons of gas from the tank, and changed the oil.

After the preliminary stuff was done, I left the plugs out and turned the car over by hand. Everything seemed to be freed up, so my dad and I moved onto fuel and spark. Pulled the coil plug and turned it over, shockingly enough, there's spark! Unfortunately, we weren't as lucky with the fuel. We pulled the pump and took it apart and the pump appeared to be in fine, working condition. We did however take note that the fuel pump "pushrod" was not moving freely as it should. After a little research, I found out that the pushrod was seized in the journal, thus not pumping the fuel pump. The rod is hardened steel and not easily accessible. There's a freeze plug at the top of the journal that I popped out to gain access fromt he top. Unfortunately, I still couldn't get the damn thing to budge with a pair of pliers. My father came up with a pretty slick solution to use a split collar, and try to turn it loose from the front (where the fuel pump bolts on). Sure enough, that cracked it loose and I was able to pull the rod out with little effort.

Next day, we put everything back together, ensured there was still spark and now fuel flowing to the carb. Then.....fired it up! It took a little coaxing, but she did indeed fire. The car ran horribly for a few minutes while all the bad gas got out of the carb/lines. But, she eventually smoothed right out. We let the car idle for awhile and I started to notice quite a bit of smoke (white) coming out of the left tailpipe. After I let the car sit for a few minutes and then fired it back up, a small cloud of smoke came out of the left cylinder head, then it smoked like a chimney out of the left tail-pipe. I’m almost positive that it’s a cracked head gasket. I begin tearing into things yesterday afternoon, but lost the motivation to pull the intake or heads.

Everything put together in it's "running" state:

Well....finally got some work done on Lincoln today. My good buddy, Brandon came on over and we tore into things. 4 hours later, I have both heads off and a new problem on my hands. See pics:

I now gotta figure out why some of my pushrods are S-shaped. :wtf:

The engine barely fits in the picture

I've always like those cars, keep us updated

I love those cars! I have always had a soft spot for them. I always wanted to do one with a stroked 460 and tubbed. Maybe someday....good luck with the resto!

Those were a high performace pushrod that Crane made in the early 70s.

That's a pretty awesome car. I say get it running well, paint it black, drive the shit out of it. /project

Thanks for the replies, fellas. The car does have a ton of potential. Some see it...other do not.

I want to keep it fairly original. I'm planning repaint it the OEM color which is a really light green, almost white. Then slap some fat white-walls on it and probably drop it on air. Should be nice when it's all said and done....just a ton of time and money, neither of which is in abundance right now.

I have a 69 lincoln body style is the same as that one, its green with a black vinal top with 22s , it is a complete car minus one bumper, has 67000 orig miles runs and drives , needs a new motor mount everything else works, ill take 4500$ or best.... 5866154770 has a few extra parts also...

I like those cars but...RUN. There is no such thing as a cheap '60's Lincoln. I had a friend who had a '67 sedan just like this one, and nothing on that car is cheap. The 462 doesn't interchange with anything except the smaller 430. The power steering pump is shaft drive off the engine. The exhaust system alone was over $800 (15 years ago). And the only one of these models that are worth anything are the '61-'67 convertibles.

I wish you luck with this car, but you have been warned :icon_mrgr.

Forget the naysayers of negativity. Its an excellent car. I always wanted a modern drivetrain in one with bags and some killer paint and rims.

My buddy Jeff has had at least 2 or 3 in his garage for years. It was just recently that I began to appreciate the cars especially when they look like this.
