4th Gen F-body vs 5th Gen Camaro

Just a thought, and I haven't read what others have said. But have you checked the PEP list? PEP 3 gets you about 20% off. You still get any applicaple incentives and what not. Might help make a 5th gen more affordable for you. I know I couldn't have bought what I bought without PEP.

There are 35 available right now. It is actually the first time I have ever even seen so many in there. Cheapest one is a 1SS vert for $31,400 if it gets 6000 miles, stickers at $40,300. Probably cheaper than you can find a used one.

This. Seriously, $15k and be faster than a genV Camaro SS. Some light mods and it's in C6LS3 territory.

x2 That's why I'm thinking about selling my 4th (and 3rd gen) I don't really drive either one of them since I've got my C5

Nice vert and I appreciate the head's up, but I am looking for silver or pewter in a 4th gen.

cool but if you're looking to turn heads and get some attention that car has random people and no shortage of milfs rolling windows down or walking up to me in parking lots complementing me on it.

I've looked at Camaros on the list before and never seen anywhere near that many either.

Thanks guys -

I'll look for this $31k 1SS - I looked this morning and didn't see it.

As for the C5 - I hear ya, however, it's not what I want. I am looking for something I can put the family in. I am married with an 11 month old, and looking to have another at some point. The point of a modern vehicle (4th or 5th Gen) is it's reliable and I can pretty much use it on nice days for daily activities - driving it to work, going to see family/friends, out to dinner or for ice cream. A 'vette completely keeps me from being able to do that.

As for the "head turning" aspect of the green vert - you're totally right. And, it looks like a clean car. I am not looking to impress MILFS or turn heads. I am not a "wild and out there" guy. Put it this way - if I could build a 5th gen right now, it'd be a silver SS/RS with black stripes. Nothing "loud" or bright.

A bunch of people must have just recently gotten new PEP cars for the summer based ont he number of Camaros and Vs

Can people buy pep cars? the 5th Gen Vert I was looking at at the dealer was a orange 2SS non RS car for $36,000 with 7k miles.

Running the numbers, even the $32k-ish price is more than I want to take on for monthly payments.

Not trying to be whiny...I see three choices....1) scrap the whole idea for now, 2) try to sock away a massive amount of money and revisit a new/PEP 2SS vert next summer, or 3) pursue the 4th gen now.

Next step seems to be taking a closer look at 4th gens to rule them in or completely out. I'll look more this weekend. Tonight...I am going to enjoy my last evening with the '12 2SS tonight!!

I completely see your point on the 4 seater having a family. I rarely drive my Z06 for this reason other than to work. Thinking of a V, ZL-1, or GT500 just for this reason. They all have their drawbacks, but at least they can be enjoyed everyday with that backseat.

Just go snag a nice clean 4th gen for $15k and sell it next season, then snag your 5th gen then. More time to save, all while you have something to drive. Life is too short to hesitate pulling the trigger on the toys that make working your ass off worth it. Not sure if a pre '09 CTS-V fits your bill, even more family friendly, and relatively cheap these days. Good luck.

Good point - I keep thinking of this as a "sunk cost", but I could always off the 4th gen and move up later if I choose to. It's not like I am paying for nothing - I am gaining something of value.

My criteria is - V8, manual trans, convertible. Preferably GM. Yes, I am being picky and basically locking myself into a Camaro. On the other hand, though, I feel I am being pretty reasonable with what i want - I don't expect to get a Z06 or something - so I feel a little more justified being picky.

Thanks guys -

If you click on the car, it will show you the RPO's and then the price depending on miles. It will show $41k in the list view. Then $33k is the 6000+ miles price, then there is $2000 in bonus cash. Actually, you probably won't get that since you get whatever the incentive is when you take delivery. But, the incentives on leftover 2011's last November ended up being around $4000, so you might actually score it under $30k if you tag it now and take delivery in December.

-Geoff

You can always tag and release. Tagging isn't a commital to buy. They actually call you when its available and ask if you still want it. That way you have more time to think about it and see how incentives play out.

Also, don't count on it being available on the date they say. Be ready for it to be if you want it, but don't count on it. Mine was almost a month late, which sucked since I sold my Lightning and Cobalt in the couple weeks before its date.

Dude, I am an inch from tagging that 1SS Vert. It has cloth seats but that is my preference in a convertible so you don't get scalded if you leave the top off in the sun. it should come in around $29,900 plus tax if they have the same incentives on it as they did last year in December/January. You could drive that for two summers and sell it for close to what you paid.

-Geoff

Tag it up - I was actually looking at the other one if I were to tag. I don't remember the details, there was one that was mildly more expensive - like $1500 more or so IIRC.

I called my dealer and he said we could turn it down two times - once when they call and once when it is delivered to the dealer. Hmmm....

-Geoff

So, we tag it...we get a call when it's ready saying "do you want it?" If we say no, it just sits in limbo. If we say Yes, it goes to the dealer. At the dealer, we can inspect it and they say "do you want it?", again, we can say no, or and it'll sit at the dealer or be returned to GM?

Any limit or ramifications to tagging and then canceling the vehicle?
