23 Camaro Convertible Don't Dare Park it in Public

WTF Happened? I had my 2016 Camaro for 7 years and nobody gave it a second look. Now all of a sudden a thief can walk right up and drive my car away? WTF.

I am thinking I need an OBD port lock and a faraday bag for my fob. Anyone else dealing with this?

No, but they are getting ton of press for being so easy to steal, and I literally live 7 blocks from Detroit. They steal them in big cities to use on the street takeovers.

I don't dare take this and leave it parked in public unless I can see it from wherever I am (like a restaurant). It sounds like they can either clone your fob or plug into your ALDL port and your car is gone Kia style.

Don’t worry people only want the mopars

Not in L.A. They had 7 stolen Camaros in 2023, and this year there has been 90 already. Something changed. Did somebody just figure something out? That is what I am trying to understand - what changed, or what did the figure out. That is not random distribution, that is special cause.

They figured out that you can copy the RF signal pattern over the air with fairly new software based radio receivers and then play it back basically like recording a song on a cassette tape off a radio station. Google it and you can find videos of how to do it and what equipment is needed right down to specific model numbers of these receivers.

Basically any remote control system can now be hacked with stuff readily available off the internet. Older types with static key codes are extremely easy, newer stuff with random or rotating key codes are more difficult but still can be hacked.

I like the key ignition in my 21 F150.

Seems like with all this easily beat and evolving technology, best bet is to still somehow get a hidden mechanical kill switch hidden somewhere in the cabin.

Don’t event need that with most the “alfaobd” I have you just gotta be in the car with new Chrysler Dodge jeep keyfob

My coworker needed a key and it was way too easy to do
