ZL1 Camaro... 7:41 at the 'ring

Bottom line...ZL1 is fast, it shouldn't be faster than ZR1 as its heavier, less powerful, and smaller brakes. And the New GT500 will still pound it into the ground once it's unleashed. Guaransheed

Impressive numbers by the ZL1. Can't wait to see what the '13 GT500 does. I'm sure it'll come out soon enough.

And yes, don't let any ever forget my total dislike for GM! I've owned Corvettes here and there, but they remain on my shit list forever.

Nobody cares about your dislike for GM. It's your huge nut swinging hard on for anything Ford related with blinders on the sides for everything else, all while trying to call everyone else out for giving praise where its due. To make a comment that A) you don't care for GM products B) say you don't care about ring times, and then continue the internet banter about future Ford products performance besting proven specs on total assumptions and speculation in a GM/ring thread just reeks of insecurity. If you don't like what is in this thread move on.

Facts and specs that are proven and public are all we have to discuss, and its clear Ford has nothing on the boards at the ring. We can all see from Ford's lack of success at the ring (for whatever excuse is to be inserted here), all they have to show is one MEDIOCRE ring time when you consider it was a $150k car. To say one OEM "promotes its times more" is comical, and a pathetic excuse as to why another is coming up short. The ring times are not published by an OEM, the list is what it is.

If this is true, it sure seems like Ford is missing the boat on this. They need to hire the second best* driver in the country, get a group of performance engineers together, and make a real effort of getting some bragging rights in the 'ring. How many other enthusiast forums are talking about this 7.41 right now? Maybe it's just marketing, but it sounds like a real opportunity being missed.

*I mentioned 2nd best, because I'm working a lot of hours and unfortunately will be unable to fill the position.

Bingo. Whether you like the Nurburgring number running or not, it's what gets attention and people talking.

Maybe you missed it, but I said Ford never sent a Ford GT to the Ring because that was before the big era of YouTube ring videos. That was a magazine. And it's a car that was designed in 2003 in an era where tire tech alone is dropping 10 seconds at the Ring, what do you expect? Man, fuck an Enzo, that shit is slower than a GT-R for 10x the price! :jagoff:

Why are facts comical? It's not like their is some sort of subjectivity to the fact GM puts effort into marketing Ring times. Starting with C5 Z06 they've done it more than any other OEM. C5 Z, CTS-V, C6 Z, ZR-1, Zl1...

In the real world, most people can't drive for shit...much less go to an actual road course and have the ability to get the most out of any car. That group is a very small segment of the automotive population.

Are these number interesting...perhaps. Does it spark interest...absolutely.

Is the ZL-1 fast, no doubt...and I don't think anyone is disputing that fact. But as a former test engineer, I find the whole concept of attempting to compare 'Ring times a joke. Too many variables in that environment (track/weather conditions, tires, driver, chassis setup, etc.). I think we're all fortunate to still live in an era where any OEM is willing to push the performance car envelope...especially at this price point.
