UAW Contract Expiration

My prediction is all sides loose if this drags on longer than 3 or 4 weeks. People who are already check to check are going to get a financial hit with only strike pay, automakers will loose sale with no inventory and UAW leadership won't last another term unless they deliver a huge win (if workers get wrecked financially).

Higher ups at one particular company are trying to strong arm suppliers to come in and continue tooling installs while the strike is going on.

My rough math if the UAW gets what they're asking for is at least a couple grand price increase per vehicle. The 40% pay increase for working 80% of a week alone is going to cost over a grand per vehicle for GM. That doesn't even start to factor in all of the other demands like eliminating tiers, pensions, medical in retirement, more PTO, etc.

I think the UAW will win the battle. UAW, Big 3, and SE MI will lose the war. Big 3 will either cease to exist along with UAW jobs, or all UAW jobs will be automated or moved to Mexico. Meanwhile, SE MI slowly turns into Flint - abandoned and no company in their right mind would move here. Fain seems to be pretty short sighted. Asian & German auto are laughing. Tesla and Rivian are laughing. All collecting market share from the Big 3 while the UAW tries to suck the Big 3 dry and into the grave.

I'm sorry .. 46 % raise... across the board .. pipe dream

I understand workers hired after 2007 are on a lower tier ... and would support raising them up to the same wage as the older workers...

I saw a report that GM has approx ..20% Ford 29 % & Stellantis has as much as 45 % of their worker force at the Lower tier in pay ...

they would gain much more support if they were pushing to get rid of the tier wage & benefit system

If they UAW was the reason why the Big 4 minus 1 cars are so expensive, then all the Toyotas and Hondas and and and would be cheaper.

The way large companies have been fist fucking their employees, I expect more unions and not less.

odd the way this is happening.... picking and choosing the plants like this.

what are those profit sharing checks they get for? curious how that plays into the "record profits, record contract".

Mary said her pay is 92% variable based on the company's performance. The UAW wants what she has, right? So sure, give them a 40% raise as a max comp ceiling... and reduce their paycheck to 8% of that. Then, at the end of the year, we'll true it up based on the company's performance vs. target.

BTW - if it's another 2008/9 type of year, 8% is your total pay.

That's not how unit pricing works. Pricing benchmark vehicles and adding/subracting features are completely based on 2 things: customer demand (obtaining new customers/gaining market share) and making something marginally better than your competition. (don't blow them out of the water, just do marginally better and keep an ace up your sleeve to keep making the model better year over year.)

Once that is done, you can look at overall cost to build then pricing based on competition. If you build something cheaper and have it priced with you competitor, you have more profit margin.

This is all based on similarly built models and similarly optioned vehicles. The large pricing differences is usually due to not comparing apples to apples.

Let’s take Stalantis for example, they made almost $18billion in profit last year. That’s about $72,000 profit for each employee. Not to mention the top dog making $25million yearly and all the executives getting a 40% raise and awesome bonuses. Cut the rest of the team some of that mulla, the middle class is dissolving…

18 Billion in profit ... what was the dividend per share ?...

want more of the profit... take part of the risk... buy shares of stock in the company

$1.12 per stock, 3.1 billion shares, so not much of that profit going to share holders.

Also about 92% of Mary’s salary being performance driven, at $25 million sure why not? Base salary of $2m if things tank is still pretty sweet. I’ll take a base salary of $75k and if performance is good take $950k.

I mean taking your profits and investing them all into EV is a strategic strategy, one the union clearly doesn’t agree with. Other big companies like Honda, Toyota and VW aren’t doing that and many are thinking it’s a waste of money. I hope the money invested shows profit for the big three, but at least for now it’s not looking too good.
