UAW Contract Expiration

I mean taking your profits and investing them all into EV is a strategic strategy, one the union clearly doesn’t agree with. Other big companies like Honda, Toyota and VW aren’t doing that and many are thinking it’s a waste of money. I hope the money invested shows profit for the big three, but at least for now it’s not looking too good.

Everyone I know that has had an EV are , one and done. The cost of ownership for a normie doent make good sense

Fain to hold Press conference Today at 10am.

UAW Communications Director Jonah Furman busted for leaking the unions real goals with strike. Notice not a word about benefits and pay. The article is behind a paywall on Detroit News, but is verified in this CNN article: https://edition.cnn.com/2023/09/22/business/leaked-uaw-messages/index.html

Meanwhile they are suing GM, Ford, and even Tim Scott for unfair labor practices. Specifically for the Big 3 not negotiating in good faith. Kind of seems like they are the ones who have no plans of negotiating in good faith. And right after this came out, his Twitter account went private.

In one message, Furman wrote “if we can keep them wounded for months, they don’t know what to do… this is recurring reputations damage and operation chaos.”

In another, he writes “The beauty is we’ve laid it all out in public and they’re still helpless to stop it.”

Basically these people are following the paths that the politicians have been following. 'I am going to do this and I don't care if it breaks the law because there isn't a damn thing you can do to me.'

Or maybe the politicians are following the lead of the early UAW

Doesn't matter because they are all liars and law breakers and don't give a crap what anyone says....

Base salary of $2m if things tank is still pretty sweet.

I think you're underestimating the personal cost, constant headaches, stress, and no work-life balance when you're the CEO of GM. There's a lot of stuff you and I can do without thinking that she cannot. I'd be curious as to just how much she spends a year on work clothes, hair, personal assistants to cover family needs while she is constantly traveling, etc. $1-2M? No thanks. I'm not saying $29M is deserved either, but if you think she can just show up 40 hours a week and punch out at the end of her shift and focus on her family life... and then show up in ratty jeans and polo to work daily and make a go at it... probably need to reality check how much it costs just to be in that position. Granted her income level likely drives a lavish lifestyle too... but I think you'd have a very hard time finding a better CEO of GM for $2M/year.

Right, especially with the cost of electric in MI and its only getting higher. Chargers outside the house are going to cost you $30-40 for a fast charge... solid pass for now.

Everyone is different my man. I never said it was easy, but I know I wouldn't be stressing out about things that much. You can only do what you feel is best at any moment in life. Some doctors stress out about everything and if a patient passes go bonkers, they don't last long. You have to figure out what works for you. Mary is a super nice person and I'm pretty sure she still lives in the same house she's been in for a long time. She isn't blowing her money like a rapper, thats for sure.

I think the UAW will win the battle.
The real losers are American tax payers who will get shafted when the Golden Geese are bankrupted and defer their "legacy" obligations - you know, like last time!

Big 3 will either cease to exist along with UAW jobs, or all UAW jobs will be automated or moved to Mexico.
They could be - and that has been the elephant in the room for decades.

Meanwhile, SE MI slowly turns into Flint - abandoned and no company in their right mind would move here.
Baloney. SE MI is doing just fine (assuming real estate prices are an indicator).

How come the news isnt actively discussing the nurse strike in Rochester?
Perhaps people are tired of hearing about over-paid bed-pan changers?
I'm sorry .. 46 % raise... across the board .. pipe dream
I went nine years without so much as a cost of living increase - I doubt there's much general support for much of anything the UAW is requesting.
I understand workers hired after 2007 are on a lower tier ... and would support raising them up to the same wage as the older workers...
The whole two-tier thing is ridiculous and always was, but that's what happens when existing people don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves.

I wonder if Ford is just going to lock the rest of them out at this point? If they shut down the rest of the F-Series, there isn't much reason to keep the lights on anywhere since trucks is where most of the profit comes from.

strike fund will get depleted quicker now

Nolan Finley is calling for a lockout already. This was in his morning newsletter. He hasn't put it in an editorial yet, but that is usually the next step. If the entire UAW is locked out, they have about 10 weeks left of pay in the strike fund. Hopefully Fain gets off his high horse and settles. I would hope that he just wants to get Ford and Stellantis on board with putting the battery plants on the national contract, then put it to a vote. If he goes from there to ransoming the Big 3 to get pensions back without even a vote, I think that will make this a VERY long strike.

I am not sure what Fain is waiting for right now. Seems like he is losing the momentum he had at the beginning of this mess.
