Tips/Experience/Etc dealing with insurance and totaled values?

Sit on it. You don't have to accept immediately. The longer you wait the more they give you. They don't want it on the books. Depending on the insurance company it negatively affects the adjuster's bonus to have it on the books.

Tell them you'll take $8500 and you keep it if they push hard.

Whoever gave you this information is miss leading you horribly

If you think it's worth any more you need to have something factual. Listings of similar vehicles are your best bet, your opinion or an arbitrary number are worthless.

lol you couldnt be any more wrong. this isnt how adjusters operate at all.

detroitstyle PM me or give me a call at my office tomorrow - 616-784-7200 and i'd be happy to help guide you through it

I will call tomorrow. Thanks. MM is still awesome.

I wanted $10k with me keeping the truck, but will be OK with $9k and keeping it. Hopefully I can get to that. I’m close for Day 1 of negotiations

Use the 3 highest prices ones and give them to your adjuster. They will usually give you at least the average price of the 3 if it means they can settle and close out the file. $10493.33 is the average of the available comparables, with tax and plate transfer fees you should be asking for a check around $11,300.00

Thanks Eric. I know they are having a hard time finding comparables in the area. This truck sells for $10k-$13k everywhere else in the country, but there just aren’t a lot of available 4x4 TRD doublecab Tacomas for sale locally

Here's the whole list... https://austin.craigslist.org/search/cto?query=tacoma

Have the owner take it to his local Toyota dealership, you you pay for the inspection,
if it checks out, send deposit, fly out one-way-ticket, drive back or have shipped.

I hope it all works out one way or the other buddy.

As far as medical goes, you arent going to get anything out of her insurance (except the $1000 mini-tort)unless you have a long term/permenant debilitating injury.

Honestly, I am pretty sure I had a low grade concussion. Some instability, off balance, headache, etc. also had expected upper back and neck pain/tension. My biggest concern is 3-4 instances of severe pain directly behind my left eye. It lasts 20-60 seconds and is enough to make me stop what I’m doing and put my hand over my eye until it stops. I need to go back on for that and get a CAT scan. Feels like pressure trying to push my eye forward through the socket. It’s pretty rough TBH

What did they say about the frame Mike?

I just had an at-house inspection... haven’t had it up on a rack or anything. I am 99% certain that there is no frame damage though. This wasn’t a t-bone, she just turned hard left into me from a lane over.

I might be very tempted if I were you to buy it back, fix it cheap
and drive the wheels off of it - which of course, would be some time!

In the mean time, you could always pick up a cheaper car to keep
you going?

Sorry to see this Mike, hope you feel better.

Over the years I've come off of the whole foreign car dislike. They do supply a lot of American jobs. While my favorite, the 4 Runner, is built in Japan, I've always had a soft spot for them.

My '04 4runner is a rust bucket, but I'm gonna have it a while... It's only got 170k on the clock.

yep not a Toyota lover, never will be

That's more than fine. We can't all drive the best trucks in the world - there's just not enough to go around!

I'd see a chiropractor as long as there's nothing broken/fractured.

There’s a reason that an ‘01 Dakota 4x4 sells for $1500 and an ‘01 Tacoma sells for $15,000

if they cant find any in the area they have to broaden their search. ive had to deal with this a few times for the clients. of course you cant use one down in texas or california etc on the complete other side of the country but adding an extra 200 miles or so to the search is usual.
