Those of you who are fine with this increase are delusional. We pay MORE than enough already to maintain our infrastructure. It's a matter of poor management and spending, not a matter of a lack of funding. .
This is like when Jenny from the block raised our income tax from 3.9% to 4.35% back in 07 with the promise it would be rolled back in 2015. And what happened? Snyder froze that.
I love MI roads but that's me... :icon_bigg
"...ball joints, tie rods, and shocks, yeah i got those...."
I would respectfully submit that it's delusional to expect a third-party to wisely spend your money.
I want better roads. Politicians aren't willing to trim spending in other areas so that means we'll need to pay more.
It sucks, but that's the way of the world.
Assuming you drive 20,000 miles per year averaging 15 MPG (1,333 gallons) the additional $.15 tax would annually cost you $200.
Seems pretty minor to me. Definitely -way- -way- less shitty than increasing the sales tax.

That's just one variable. If everyone is accounted, and that can be yet not be limited to, beverage/food/commonly used goods-transporters (Beer, bread, toilet paper, eggs, milk) , shipping services (UPS, Fedex, DHL) and so on so forth, it can add up to impact a lifestyle change.
Domino effect.
Problem with only having a Tax on gas is only those that drive will pay for them.I

I mean, took the day off, went and voted no on this. .

Everyone benefits from roads...... everyone, even those that don't drive.
Therefor a Sales tax is a more "fair" way to collect.
My self I would prefer a tole gate coming off the new (and unnecessary) bridge they are going to build.
With all of the increased semi traffic to Michigan roads they are boasting about from the new proposed bridge.... defiantly going to put a strain on our highways.
What the legislature needs to accomplish is lowing everyone's insurance cost (never happen since most in the legislature are also employed through the insurance industry-Did everyone forget we pay 165% more than the #2 highest insurance costing state? ) Then take the savings from everyone's insurance and apply it to rebuilding our road infrastructure. No money or very little out of the taxpayers pocket.
This is possible to do.
May I suggest absentee ballots for you in the future. Much more convenient.
Once you do it they send you a post card for every election asking if you would like a absentee ballot.
Consumers of goods/services would also pay more, in theory, as the cost of whatever services would be increased to offset the added fuel costs.Problem with only having a Tax on gas is only those that drive will pay for them.
I agree the insurance issue is a far greater problem. The issue is medical costs. That is the elephant in the room. What the legislature needs to accomplish is lowing everyone's insurance cost.
Well who else is enjoying the tax increase? :crap:
