State Senate approved gas tax hike

Those of you who are fine with this increase are delusional. We pay MORE than enough already to maintain our infrastructure. It's a matter of poor management and spending, not a matter of a lack of funding. .

This is like when Jenny from the block raised our income tax from 3.9% to 4.35% back in 07 with the promise it would be rolled back in 2015. And what happened? Snyder froze that.

Definately poor management

I wonder why we voted then?
I mean, took the day off, went and voted no on this. Took day for other reasons since schools are closed, child had nowhere to go. Not that I'm complaining about the day with my child, she always goes to vote with me.
It seems like a kick in the balls, we say no, then they say too bad.

I would respectfully submit that it's delusional to expect a third-party to wisely spend your money.
I want better roads. Politicians aren't willing to trim spending in other areas so that means we'll need to pay more.
It sucks, but that's the way of the world.
Assuming you drive 20,000 miles per year averaging 15 MPG (1,333 gallons) the additional $.15 tax would annually cost you $200.
Seems pretty minor to me. Definitely -way- -way- less shitty than increasing the sales tax.

I dont like when people say its only $x.xx. That shit adds up when you include everything else.

Did everyone forget the other taxes

DIA, $15
Smart Bus $73. Why should I pay for this?
Zoo Tax $8,

And those will only increase with property values.

So when you say its only $200, dont forget to add the other stupid shit you're paying for.

How bad is it? How bad will it get?

Oppressive government? Government out of control?
Government not properly / fairly representing its citizens?

This sounds a little familiar…..makes you wonder if it will
someday bring the same results it has historically?

And this is the republican senate and governor. So much for the gop being against taxes. Goes to show neither party gives a crap about the people. They're just lining their own pockets

East Kentucky needs new residents and Business. I am sure companies could get a nice tax break and bring some of its employees down with them to bring up the area.

That's just one variable. If everyone is accounted, and that can be yet not be limited to, beverage/food/commonly used goods-transporters (Beer, bread, toilet paper, eggs, milk) , shipping services (UPS, Fedex, DHL) and so on so forth, it can add up to impact a lifestyle change.

Domino effect.

Diesel surcharges for courier services are based on the calculated monthly U.S. average diesel price according to the Energy Information Administration. It isn't calculated at the state level as implied in your post, but a national average.

Problem with only having a Tax on gas is only those that drive will pay for them.
Everyone benefits from roads...... everyone, even those that don't drive.
Therefor a Sales tax is a more "fair" way to collect.
My self I would prefer a tole gate coming off the new (and unnecessary) bridge they are going to build.
With all of the increased semi traffic to Michigan roads they are boasting about from the new proposed bridge.... defiantly going to put a strain on our highways.

What the legislature needs to accomplish is lowing everyone's insurance cost (never happen since most in the legislature are also employed through the insurance industry-Did everyone forget we pay 165% more than the #2 highest insurance costing state? ) Then take the savings from everyone's insurance and apply it to rebuilding our road infrastructure. No money or very little out of the taxpayers pocket.
This is possible to do.

I mean, took the day off, went and voted no on this. .

May I suggest absentee ballots for you in the future. Much more convenient.
Once you do it they send you a post card for every election asking if you would like a absentee ballot.

We have to pay higher insurance here, especially in Wayne county. Somebody has to pay for the people driving around without insurance.

Consumers of goods/services would also pay more, in theory, as the cost of whatever services would be increased to offset the added fuel costs.

I agree the insurance issue is a far greater problem. The issue is medical costs. That is the elephant in the room.

I have the fix for our roads ... hovercars!! We were promised in the 21st century cars would fly so government mandate that! hovering cars= roads not farked up! #satire

Well who else is enjoying the tax increase? :crap:

Not much skin off my back. I get 30MPG back and forth to work using side streets :D. Cost me $10 to fill up from half a tank the other day. A full tank lasts me anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 weeks lol
