Looking at buying a sxs tomorrow
Have prices

Wanted to plow driveway, run around neighborhood, maybe MAYBE dune trip. MAYBE.

Looking at the Polaris 570 Ranger and Can Am Commander 800r

Price is REALLY close to be a wash with plow and winch.

New rzr900 and new ranger900xp are just too much for me.

570 Ranger has bench seat and dump bed both are nice. Bench for my little boy to ride as well. Can add seats in the bed. Ugly ass factory alum wheels. Polaris horrendous tires

Can-Am looks like a rzr although little better ;-)
Big dump bed with rzr looks. Not utility like ranger
Nice factory alum wheels and pretty nice tires too.
Removable seats. Ability to put seats in the dump bed.

Ranger 500. Cheaper. Crappy seats, but do the job. I kinda dig the black steel wheels. Dump bed.

Ranger 500 $11126
Ranger 570xp 13537
Can am commander $13200

All three with winch and plow not installed

$250 labor I can do myself for a $20 bottle of Tito’s

Anything good or bad or personal experience or fuck you Anthony for sending fake negative bad rep that never happened.

Be advised dick filter is operational!

Id go Can am just to badge it as a "CAMAMRO" . Other than giving my support to the tito influenced accessory installations, my input is poop.

You can modify it later, wheels, tires, seats, etc. Whatever you get make sure you get a good windshield(lexan), belts, winch and I'd get doors if there not available.

We have a 570 at work and it seems to be cool and reliable, we beat the shit out of it and it has a slow speed selector switch under the hood for the little ones lol, or just forget to buckle the seat belts and it will keep it slow to.

Hey Anthony! I honestly can't give you much feedback on these machines. I haven't had any experience with the Polaris or CanAm side by sides. Both companies make a good machine, and the motors are pretty bulletproof. I would probably give the nod to Polaris due to the fact that they have more dealer support in this area, as far as I have seen. I know the Honda side by side is a bad ass machine, but big money, and a VERY complicated drive system. As far as the plow and winch goes- easy stuff. I can help you with any questions you might have regarding the install.
Oh, and for those that need it, my cell number is 248-521-8865. I'm no longer at the Honda shop, so that's the best number to reach me.

800cc might get through the dunes.. 500cc will get you down by the beach but thats about it. My uncles Ranger 700 will not climb test hill, even with a 40mph run at it. That thing is great on trails though, especially with 2 bass boat seats in the dump bed.

My riding group has been running MI and WV ATV trails since 2000. More ATVs than SxS, but we own both. And mostly Polaris, but a few CannedHams and Hondas over the years too.

1) You need to decide if the primary use is utility or trail riding. It's hard to get 1 machine to do both well. The utility-oriented machines will not do that great on the trails, especially the more extreme trails. And while you can certainly/easily put a snow plow on a Rzr/sport-SxS, it's still not going to haul a load of gravel across the back 80 well. If you go utility, and all you want to do is ride open county roads up north, it'll do just fine. But if you want to "do" the dunes, or mountain trails in WV - I wouldn't go with the Ranger/utility.

2) If it's going to be a utility-only machine, any engine is fine. Trail riding, I wouldn't go less than 900cc. I've got a 500cc on my ancient (and much smaller than a SxS) 2000 Polaris Sportsman and there isn't a day that goes by I wish it had a larger engine.

3) In terms of brand quality, I'd put both Polaris and CanAm in the same slot - both very good. CamAm is little more known for their engine power output, and Polaris for 4x4 and ride capabilities. Honda isn't really known for their SxS, so I'd probably avoid them based on that + cost premium. If you're looking for a sport quad, then sure, maybe.

In the end, I'd just make sure you make a list of what features are important to you based on your intended usage, and go from there. A lot of it depends on your riding style and intentions. A common example we see in new riders is EBS. Most new people to the sport, esp those having only ridden N MI trails, commonly argue that EBS is a costly & worthless option. Then we take them to WV and laugh at their opinion! But if you won'r be doing any mountain or steep hill riding, then forgoing EBS may be the right choice financially.

No farm lan here, maybe a cord of wood once or twice a year.

No WV trips

I’ve never gone extreme trail ridding or seriously technical trails either. All simple shit.

I could not care less about going over test hill at sand dunes.

Nor will I ever bury it in mud in a bog somewhere.

I made it over test hill in my 13 500 sportsman. And in my 13 scrambler 850xp and in my jeep.

Does nothing for me

Plow, ride around hood

Like to have seating for 3

I’m really leaning towards the commander. No 3 up front. But it’s got a big dump bed.

A 900 ranger should do the dunes just fine
And plow
And barely fit in my Truck bed. 60w and the bed is 60w

The commander 800 should do the dunes fine
And plow
And fit in the bed easier
58.6w

There is A LOT of hate around these parts for the can am.

Have you test drive them? Can't go wrong with either the ranger or commander, I never driven them so I can't vouch for there performance. My Kawasaki teryx was awesome in mud, trails, sand, gravel, plowed, I had an LS motor in the bed of it and dropped it off to a buddy cpl blocks over. All performance was excellent, comfy, top speed of 55mph.

Probably a ranger 900xp

I pulled out some serious negotiation skillz

Blue or grey is next decision
