mini skid steers

Anyone ever use one of these to level out a backyard/dig up grass for concrete? Are they powerful enough for a small 50x50 area to move some really clay-ey soil? Or anyone downriver have a tractor or skid steer with a bucket and wanna make a few bucks?

wizeguy? I got a quote for my garage foundation from him. Unfortunately I can't afford to pay a company full price like that. I have a buddy who is a journeyman bricklayer or whatever and hes been doing concrete replacement for a while now and hes going to be helping do the forming/pouring/finishing. I Just have to dig the shit out.. lol FUCK!

anyone know of a place to rent one of these? I called the taylor home depot and the guy in the rental department sounded a little off and wasn't sure what I was talking about. I know they used to rent them there. Not sure about now though.

Call Hull Brothers Rentals in Taylor on Telegraph. They rent skid steers and the trailers to transport them. Just remember you need something with close to 10k lbs towing capacity for the trailer and Skid Steer.

if you've never ran one, you can actually do more damage than you think. Those things are pretty powerful.
I would check on craigslist for some type of Bobcat work for hire.... if a guy knows what he's doing, he can get in and out of there in no time

I do have about 100 hrs of experience on a bobcat, and another 100 on a tractor with tires that were about as tall as me on the back. Anything beats shoveling.. LOL but I will if I have to.

I own a small one. They are much harder to operate than they look, but they do a excellent job of obtaining grade.

If you have any kind of motor skills you will be just fine. I rented a few from the CAT dealer in brownstown right off sibley. I got a skid steer for 3 days for 200 bucks with some pursue-ding of the reservation guy on the phone. Rent it on a Friday or Thursday and you can talk the guy into letting you keep it for the whole weekend at a one or two day rental charge.

If you doing anything that is wet get one with tracks, the one i got with tires worked good but it was brand new when i got it. Get the insurance as well cuz I overloaded mine and trashed the hydraulic pump and they didn't charge me anything for repairs.


If I ever did it again I would get one a few models up in size with more power, i forgot how the numbering went but I talked with the guy when i turned it in and he said next time get a bigger one an the job would have been way easier.

did they require a 3/4 ton or bigger truck to haul it?

Being in Equipment rental ive seen stuff get sketchy when you try an tow one with a 1/2 ton truck i dont recommend going any speed over 50mph they tend to pull the truck around quite abit.

I have a Kubota L35 @ 6000lb and it's a bit scary loading it on the trailer but it tows decent with a 1500. The first time I ever towed it was from ohio to michigan and it wasn't too bad but electric brakes on the trailer are highly recommended. For grading I would use a land grader on the back of a 3pt which is a little more dummy proof than a skid steer IMO.
