It's still too early. Gonna give it a shot on Lake Huron next weekend though, I'll report my findings.
Warm temps, sunny days, and no rain have made things tough so far from everything I am hearing.
I watched some fishing moving up the platte last week. Just singles though. Nothing in numbers.
I'm leaving tonight for the per marquette. I'll report back after the weekend.
I think the dnr are full of shit to be honest they say alewife populations are so low the fish have nothing to eat well two years ago I went on vacation to manistee went to the beach and before I even got out of the car I could smell dead fish so im like wtf is that go onto the beach and alewifes were dead all over the beach!! So could the dnr explain that to me why there were so many if they are supposed to be wiped out??? I think salmon stocking is exspensive so they cut back so they could make more $$$$$ and see how the natural reproduction works out well it hasnt and people are getting pissed off including me.

It's THAT time again. I'll be on the pere marquette river for the next 3 weekends.
Have a river charter on Oct 8
The numbers have been up in the great lakes, hopefully this downward spiral of salmon population is reversing and they flood the rivers.
They're already in the PM. That water is almost unfishable right now with all the asshole snaggers.
We're at the lowest number of alewives since sampling began. The DNR is continuing to decrease Salmon stocking, and increase Lake Trout stocking as well as other specie. The majority of salmon returning to the rivers is now a naturally reproducing population.
With the DNR making chumming illegal for steelhead, it's great news for those of us who actually fish and not just snag fish off their beds or chum.
