For Shaun ---- stock LS1 vs stock 2011 5.0

I think whats even sadder than a 2002 Camaro hanging with a 2011 Mustang is the fact that the 2011 Camaro cant hang with the 2002 Camaro...talk about progress

Not true. The new 2010 SS runs 12.8/12.9/13.0 @110 way more often than the 4thgens did. The stock LS1 4 gen record was 12.8 @ 110 I believe, most ran 13.2-13.3 stock. The new one is clearly faster.

Ive made hundreds of passes in stock LS1s, 6 speeds, autos, Z28s, SSs etc. The non LS6 (98-00) intake cars always went 13.3 @ 106-7 stock for me, the 02 auto went 13.2 @ 107. Only the 6 speed SLP lid/catback/LS6 intake (01+) cars could hit 109/110 back then. I usually ran .1 and nearly 1 mph slower until the cars were broken in around 5,000 miles. How many miles were on this stang? That could be hurting it a bit.

I just dont get all the hype around this stang. Sure, 412 hp and 394 or whatever ft lb is cool, but with 3600+lbs to lug around its nothing much more than whats already out there worth a high 12/low 13 second run.

From times I've seen, I'd say the new '11 stang has a hair on the 4th and 5th gen maro, but thats just from what Ive driven and seen from reliable sources on the '11 stang. Shitty driver is the variable that makes sense here hindering the stang.

I'm only saying it's plausible they could have done it because they knew the internet would have many long threads about it. I'm sure it is a drivers race. I'm also sure the Mustang is the faster car with equal drivers in equal conditions.

I'll start by saying, I respect you, judging by your posts, and the cars you own and around on a regualr basis, you know your shit. That said I will say this...how fast do you think the new 5.0 is going to be? I mean really..it has be PROVEN over and over again that BONE stock from the factory never had a wrench turned on them, or a single keystroke to the computer have gone 12's. Now you guys are saying they sandbagged the mustang on purpose to let the camaro win. Let's say for the sake of argument that its a 13.20 car, for the mustang to "sandbag" and have a 13.20 camaro beat it, I think its safe to say it would have to be a mid 12 second car, no? Do you honestly think...being "not broke in, with 8 miles, with a new driver, with traction contol on, with a 250lb passenger" that the car would have to sandbag to let the camaro win? Do you really think those cars are going to be that fast? I mean I know like ford products but come on.

Is it REALLY that far fetched that a car that TYPICALLY runs low 13's and can break in the 12's stock, beat a new 5.0 mustang heads up, with no shenanigans? My personal opinion is no.

that poor thing is sooo heavy............................

X2, most 04 goats were 14 sec cars. Some guys squeeked out high 13s, but that was all Ive ever seen.

I have a bone stock 6 speed WS-6 I can run if this is that important to someone. Only thing Ive done is remove the cats because I thought they were clogged. But with 80,000 miles on it, we can call it a wash even if that gained me .0001 hp.

Considering he owns both cars, totally wouldn't doubt it. The older the LS1 F-Body gets, the faster it gets. By the time we have grandkids, it will be a stock 10 second car.

Just like 60's and 70's muscle cars. They're all way slower than everyone remembers.

Can you get a Brembo 5.0 without getting 3.73's? Is that a legal option arrangement? Just wondering. If you can, has it ever been stated what gear the car in the original video had?

But Shaun, isn't your car tuned? So shouldn't you run a tuned LS1? Not talking shit, you know I dig the car...just wondering.

Shaun's car isn't tuned (yet). From people I've talked to, there isn't a whole lot to be gained by tuning the 5.0, especially with the direct injection and vvt.

I find it funny how hard it is to find a stock LS1. Just seems like there's so many out there, but nobody left it alone.

The 5.0 still is in the process of being unraveled. Tunes are primitive at this point because not many people have had the time to really get their hands on one. Evo Performance is running mid 11's with a tune and exhaust on their 5.0, but with a crude tune, it hit 11.8 to start.

Evo Performance also gutted the car from my understanding...

Over the wekend I ran a 2002 LS1 with Long tubes, no cats 3" exhaust, single bullet style muffler, CAI, pullies and guess what.......

we were DEAD even raced 5 times every time the same. Dead even.

Stock LS1= I will win
Bolt on LS1= even or advantage LS1 depending on bolt ons.

That youtube video is bullhit.

roll race or dead dig? Auto or 6 speed? I didn't know LS1's had CAI's, camaro or Firebird?
