Estimate power? 347

Hell, pay for the dyno time and I'll let you stand there and watch it make the torque and hp curves right in front of your eyes. :)

I'll do one better, I'm putting the car on the dyno up in the backwoods of Chesaning tomorrow morning. I'm already paying for it, all he has to do is show up.

My last setup was a standard bore 302 (stock block, crank, rods) stock 69' windsor heads (1.84 valves) vic jr intake, 750 carb, 3500 verter and a crappy cam... Went 12.20's N/A and 10.60's on 150 shot.

And now I would love to try some giggle gas  Thanks for that!

so.... 300rwhp with "P" heads on a 347, cam, intake, 650 holley, headers and is reasonable?
LOL

Yep should be a fun little cruiser but I'm with everyone else about getting little better heads. Afr tfs or eddies.

I have a 325ci in mine with afrs, a baby tfs 1 cam, cobra ported intake, 3200 stall, stock Aod and it put down 305rwhp and 351 rwtq. However, in a 3100lb GT it goes 11.80 @ 116. Personaly I could have cared less about the Dyno numbers it just came with the tune :) the real proof is in the pudding=track numbers :)

Big difference between a 302 vrs the 347 with the same cylinder heads ie:Gt40 is going to be TQ not HP the hp will be limited by the cylinder head in both engines by its ability to flow overall. The 347 having more cubic inches will have a low rpm tq curve and lower rpm peak hp in comparison to the same headed 306.

The two engines while making the same power(hp) overall but having totally different tq curves will act, drive and feel completely different in the same car.

Ive had 3 vehicles in my shop in the last several months...alll fresh 347's low compression on pump gas.
Each one was dynoed and put out just over 300 to the tire, had stock idles and great torque.

I may be selling my ported vic jr's. if interested.

In my opinion that
s too much head for a cruiser and well mannered wife cruiser. I would stick with GT40 alum X or Y heads Edelbrock Performer or RPM heads, AFR 165 or 180 TFS street heads. All those heads will do over 300 without being overkill(vic jr overkill) with a decently mannered cam.

IMPO using the Vic Jr will need a looser converter, and more cam to make it work right. Using the Y or X, performer, or 165 heads will give you tons of useable torque under 6K RPM and still be more than enough to hit the HP number you're looking for. The bigger heads, TFS, RPM, 185 etc will still net you the torque and HP but may require a looser converter to make it feel right and will give you more power above 6K.

But i'm just a dumb backwoods idiot, so take my opinion for what it's worth. I have only built 15 or so of these for myself and friends, and they all do exactly what they were built for.

347+165 sized head+520/530 cam= tons of torgue and 300+ HP all day on 93 octane gas with a relatively tight converter. If using an AOD chek out TCI 433100 converter. Retains lock up, will stall to 3000+ on that combo and has great street manners. It's old school, but works.

Best of Luck!

Edit: the P heads will work, but like, Derek, said will be the restriction of the combo. You will have the torque, but may lack HP. All in the selection of the cam.
