Diesel trucks racing on Woodard Friday

As far as this argument goes, just line up Lethals Z against the truck and see if it really is fast. Problem solved.

:haha: Last I heard his car ran a best of 12.2 "with a slipping clutch"..... Even if he does produce his claimed 11 second time slip, I don't think that would be enough to take down that diesel.

I didn't see any of this out that night, but, I can say in all my years at the track, I've seen a lot of these hillbilly toys run. Most launch hard and then fade off with the quickest I've seen at the track were doing low 12s in the upper teens. I've seen faster diesels on the streets (one Ram walked a 126 mph trapping Evo on the highway at TX2K11 - it was a clean pull for both), but have no idea what its times were in terms of a 1/4 since it was on the street.

Lets just pretend the vette is a little over 500 rwhp where I am, trapping at 132 on street tires, that truck is fucking flying if it in fact walked him on a clean race. If this is the case, I'm sure we'll see more of it soon enough. I'll believe anything after seeing what I saw in texas.

Welcome to the party....

I am sure you have run DM in his ZR1 so this should put it into perspective:

C6Z w/blower ran DMs ZR1 from a roll, DM lost (driver,tires maybe??)

Later in the night the same C6Z w/blower got beat by the Diesel from both a low roll and a dig.....

Now, both races were to maybe 100ish.....I have no doubts in triple digits the Vette would have walked away.

That blown C6z should be trapping 136-8ish (taking his guesses out of it and going with what the stock internal boosted Z06s do typically), the ZR1 last time we were at the track was dead even with me, so 132-133. No driver error, he can row gears with the best them. We've run hundreds of times. So yes, that blown C6Z should have pulled the ZR. Now the fact that the Ram pulled that blows my mind. I do believe its possible, but what power and curb weight are we talking to make a Ram trap 140s?

you would never see a ram trapping 130+, let alond 140+ on the street. Diesels can be quick, but once you get into real high power, they get to the point of being totally unstreetable REAL fast. Talking full fill blocks, transmissions that dont last on the street, etc.

From the sounds of it they were short runs, maybe not even to the 1/8

yeah they will run fast but won't hold up

my buddy has a low 13 sec dmax, he was tired of blowing up front end components in the steering, so he made it slower, 1/2 ton stuff on a 3/4 ton diesel lol

Nobody said anything about them holding together for 200,000 miles. I agree, components can only take so much stress for so long a time. This guy could have finished it last week and it could be dead this week. That is not the issue. Seems most are trying to gauge how fast it is, not the lifespan. Yes, I have seen a Ram that trapped high enough to pull an Evo trapping at 126-7 on the highway 50-130. It happened there, it can happen anywhere. Did the truck blow up the next race he had? Who knows.

Rick L (president of this club) has a D-max that's modded and he beats the ever living shit out of that truck. No failures last time I spoke with him, although the trans was getting tired.

The Ford and Dodge guys have to hate on the GM trucks for something. All they've really got is the "it's not a real front end arguement." :)

I get constant grief from my Ford and Dodge truck friends about my IFS "3/4 ton El Camino". But like anything else, if maintained well and the weak points are addressed properly, that front end holds up just fine. I know of one that has been making 500 at the wheels for quite some time now without an issue. :icon_wink

I love diesel trucks, but I will agree that some of the guys are getting a little silly with the soot everywhere all the damn time. Does my truck smoke? Sure, but I also try to be respectful of others. Nobody likes some dickbag blowing soot all over their car and into their interiors.

Last I remember I put 4 cars on your mustang...oh wait, that was your daddy's car. I have an 11s slip and like I said, it's nothing special - car is pretty much stock. I never said I could beat that diesel, but a S/C'd Z will, maybe not off the line, but in a long run, it definitely will.

(this is a caption from the vid)

This is a friends truck on a bad pass, trans keeps melting clutches and the auto doesnt like the power at all. Truck runs our New On 3 Performance 60mm wastegate. Runs mid/high 10s on a clean pass and going for 9's. Very environmentally friendly truck
