So my beautiful 2003 Silverado SS was stolen last week at work off public street. Have claim filed but would like any tips you guys may have to get payed out quicker, get the best value for the truck...and suggestions for a cool car to replace the SS. I need a nerdy ride that is fun and down low cool.

Should I contact DPD in anyway?? I have been using the Campus Police Department at Wayne, they seem on it but know people who's cars have been recovered and no one ever told them.

Been pretty shitty not having the truck I bought from new and wanted to drive into the ground :(

Insurance will wait 30 days before paying, start your research now as to what your truck sells for in this area,

30 days unless they find the truck sooner. Any additional items in the vehicle can be claimed on your homeowners insurance. Thinks like laptops, iPads, tools, $5k Rolex.

Im sure you have to have some sort of proof you owned these items am I correct?.

I am by no means saying that you should lie. Just saying that you already know they are not going to give you what you want for the truck. So if you had some expensive items that you have purchased and were possibly in the truck at time of theft it could help get you closer to what you want or need for the truck. Recipes, credit card statements, pictures all those things would work for proof. But again I'm just pointing out facts nothing else.

Sorry man, thieves need killin.... Wierd suggestion but why not get into a Duramax.. lift it, lower it..make it loud or keep it quiet...tuner puts it into the 400-450hp.. mileage might be much better than the SS!

What Ins. Company? I had State Farm and they were ready to cut a check in less than a week...that was years ago though

I had Encompass when my Jeep was stolen. They told me it would take 30 days for them to issue replacement check, but they found it just after 2 weeks wrecked. So once they had the physical vehicle to inspect the waiting game was over. They sent someone the next day to look Jeep over. I was prepared and gave them 5 examples of comparable vehicles to counteract their initial appraisal. They worked with me... At the time I was more than happy with the fair amount they gave me but I am still being drug through the mud due to having a claim on file causing a higher rate. Everyone I quoted to change had it on file so they would ding ya. BS

Good luck, sucks all around!

Terrible terrible choice, that called insurance fraud. Even if it squeaks through do you really want to be on the nicb list for potential fraud so that ever claim you make in the future is looked at with a fine tooth comb? Be honest if things come back with a value you don't like show comps and negotiate. If you didn't get the appraisal you wanted on your house would you make a claim that the Picasso was stolen... No

I knew this was going to get miss understood.lol. I'm just saying that a lot of people's cars get stolen and make the claim to auto insurance and they get there check for the value of the car. That's it. But how many people drive around in a completely empty vehicle? Not many. I had my Eddie Bauer expidition get stolen two years ago and made my claim. AAA gave me a fair price for the truck. I was happy. Then a few days, weeks, months go by and I realize how much stuff I actually had in the truck at the time. Truly I always have a decent amount of Snapon tools, spare mags fo multiple guns, an iPad, a tech 2, hockey gear. I never did anything about these items. Just figured oh well it's not that big of deal. Till I had to start laying out serious cash to replace it all. Then I wished I had made the claim. That's all I'm saying. Think hard about all you had in the truck, and if it's out ways the hassles and deductible make the claim to homeowners. Not trying to push insurance fraud at all. So please do miss understand what I'm saying.

I think its a good idea to try to list all the items you had in the truck. Even if it was only a few hundred bucks that is money in your pocket.

Any item in vehicle that is looked at as "you should have removed (Laptops, gps, etc) are not covered unless you have a rider. Otherwise you have to file an additional claim on your homeowners.

thanks guys. insurance company is esurance. I am not going to claim anything exrtra and understand it would be a big PITA to get them to cover anything not bolted to the truck. They said two weeks, it has been in the NCIC for 8 days. I am pretty sure this is a model that will not be recovered and if it is the cost to rebuild it will most likely total it.
So to get best value I should have copies of adds for the same truck in our area? Any number?? DOes the KBB value come into play??

this caught my eye :)https://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/cto/5399243687.html

kbb can be used to argue value of the truck

best is what people are asking for them in similar condition and miles
