Best way to purchase plane tickets?

I've got a trip to Nassau in November, and I'm wondering what everyone is using to book flights? Expedia/Orbitz? Or do you book directly through the airline?

The cheapest I've found is $355/person with a 3 hour, 30 minute lay over in Miami. Plus $30 per checked bag on top of that. (On Orbitz). I think that's a decent deal but I wanted to make sure there isn't a better way to do it.

Thanks!

The travel sites are usually all pretty close, at least they were every time I've searched. Ended up going through Delta.com for the last trip I took, I had a $100 voucher from previous flight plus my girlfriend gets 10% off Delta.com through her work or credit union or something.

It was about $50 more on Deltas site but ended being $150 less than the next best deal on Expedia/Orbitz because of the discounts we had.

give me dates and departure arrival cities i'll mess around for a while

November 7-14. Departing DTW to Nassau. (I think NAS?) All the ones I could find layover in Miami or Fort Lauderdale. I would guess you can't land a big plane there? :dunno:

Thanks for all the replies!

bing does excellent work with travel. That being said, book through the actual site as I've yet to see a time when the travel sites are any different than direct airline. Going through the direct airline may also get you some extra benefits like the ability to cancel/reschedule your flight.

bing will tell you what they think the price will do too. That's really the most helpful thing. My experience has shown them to be pretty accurate on their book now/wait to book predictions. Sometimes you have to use the connecting flight to figure it out though. Like when I look for Sioux City it doesn't know anything but if I just look at the DTW to MSP connecting flight it will tell me what the rate trend is.

stay away from spirit. youll get rammed with stupid charges and their flights suck
try to stay with southwest, delta or us airways...aa might not even be bad either

always book through delta directly. and I have an amex delta card, which automatically gives me free checked luggage

Spirit sucks. Just flew with them down to Atlanta. Out of my 4 flights, every one was delayed and not on time. Most, the plane wasn't even at the terminal yet.
