Apparently, you can't fix stupid in Camp Mustang...

I already have the $8000 price difference, but I can keep that one in my hip pocket (you know, where I say if I had a ZL1 and $8000 I could blow the doors of a GT500 at the Ring and at the dragstrip). but I am saving that one!

MSRP ZL1 = $54,095 + $900 destination = $54,995

MSRP GT500 = $54,200 + 795 destination = $54,995

Unless my math is failing me I do not see a $8,000 difference. The GT500 Performance Package is $3,495 and the Track Package is $2,995, which when combined are still only $6,495. But who's to say that either are needed to lay waste to the ZL1. Time will tell.

Actually, there is NO difference between keeping it secret and not releasing it. SAME THING.

I have a bet with DBK about the ring time. So I care. DBK cares because he does not want the time to come out, because he knows it is slower.

Here is why I care: It is not news when a lighter and higher horsepower car is faster. What is news is when the heaver car with less horsepower is faster. That makes the victory count at least triple for bench racing. Well, if they plan to release info on said date, it's not a secret forever.

$8000?!? Is that how GM does math? If so, no wonder why they went bankrupt.

You guys are right, it was $8,305. My bad!

Come on, that is a terrible way to base your facts, they could have added navigation etc on the car, you have no idea what options were added. The electronics package is $2,340, glass roof is $1,995, shaker audio is $1,295 etc. You can option out a ZL1 close to $62,000, so again, your point holds no water. The fact remains that both the ZL1 and the GT500 have the identical out the door price.

I've got an notion that at least a couple guys here have a pretty decent idea what it ran at the Ring. But has Ford "officially" released any numbers, other than the HP or the 200mph? Aren't the test numbers from a rag? Or am I missing something?

Theoretical top speed has nothing to do with actual top speed, it's just where the top gear rev limit puts you for speed. With a 3.31 I would suspect it is in the range of 270 in 6th gear. I'm also betting the 202 actual top speed occurs in 5th, not 6th. I don't think anything with a T-56/TR-6060 has ever been faster stock in 6th gear than 5th.

Is it still a 6060? It stands up to that 631 lb-ft?

Wouldn't it end up being aerodynamically limited in a car like that before gearing becomes and issue?

How do you define "Compete"? My guess is that the GT500 couldn't compete with the ZL1, so Ford had to keep the times secret. And lets not beat around the bush, Ford went to the ring a couple weeks ago, got times, and they aren't telling anyone. They are keeping them secret.

Regardless, I think both sides are pretty happy with their results, and couldn't care less about the other sides claims. Bench racing on Motown is a different story, though.

LOL

A ZL1 is on par with a base C6.

I love these muscle car wars. The consumer always wins.

In the 80s it was the Mustangs stomping all over the Camaros on the street. Then the 93's came out with the LT1 and they were actually quicker, especially quicker than the 94-98 Mustangs....except maybe the Cobras. Then the LS1 came out and they beat up on the Mustangs pretty badly. Then the Camaro died.

Now both cars are back and they both look and perform great. It's really a good time to be into cars.

How does a new Camaro SS run against a new Mustang GT? I have a Mustang, would be interested in lining up with a Camaro SS if anyone has one.

What I think is funny is when the Camaro and Firebirds were faster in their LT1 and LS1 erras, the Mustangs sold more... Now the new 5.0 Mustang is faster than the new Camaro, but the Camaro sells more.... Kinda weird aint it!

Just goes to show what type of buyer really drives the sales numbers. The average Joe, not the racers.

I have to admit if I could find a '13 GT500 for Supplier (I'm not paying sticker for shit LOL) I'd buy it, yes I'd jump ship at this point that car is insane. Don't get me wrong I love the ZL1 and will probably get a 'vert but man I cant imagine a GT500 with a few bolt ons.
