I'm not sure how this correlates with my question.
I asked why a AA factory worker should expect to make the same wages a Registered Nurse does...why are you asking me about paychecks and being overpaid?
No, I'm not signing any UAW paychecks.
Like I said, who are you or anyone not signing the paycheck to judge what someone should, or shouldn't make?
That's part of what go this country in the mess that we're in is that people are worried about what everyone else is doing except for themselves.
Obviously the person signing the paychecks thinks the workers are over paid and is trying to do something about it so asking that question in response to why should these people make as much as an R.N. isn't really valid.
Do you think they're gonna start selling axles cheaper to GM? Do you think GM is going to lower their prices on trucks?
It's pretty simple economics. At one point, the salaries were realistic to some degree. However, the rest of the country is in a recession, the companies need cheaper labor. All of you that complain about buying foreign and then supporting the union are contradicting yourselves whether you acknowledge it or not.
The only way to keep work in America is even we become competitive on labor. Labor costs need to come down to do that.
It sucks for people who have built a style of living around their higher wages, and I feel for you. However, you do have to think of the larger picture. You will need to make personal sacrifices for the greater good of keeping costs down to help keep America from bleeding all it's work out to other countries.
Simple economics? No it's called our trade w/out countrys is so fucked up it's not even funny.
Right on B. I'll say something here that I have said many times before. The wages used to be competetive when everyone in the auto industry paid them. The problem is that Toyota, Nissan, Honda, BMW, Hyundai, etc... have built plants in the US and the UAW HAS FAILED TO ORGANIZE THEM. This has led to an erosion of the base wage.
The UAW leaders have sat back fat dumb and happy instead of working like a dog to organize these plants. If they were all union and paid equally, there wouldn't be concessions like this. But Detroit can't compete on a level playfield when the competition is paying workers 1/2 what they are. The UAW has nobody to blame but itself.

That's the problem- There is no level playing field!
Detroit can't compete when they export a billion times less than what is imported to this country. And don't give me the "honda and toyota's are made here BS" They still should tax the fuck out of them like they do to us.
WOW. Here comes the real world. If the UAW doesn't negotiate now, and people cross the picket lines, they're about to get an ass kicking.
fixed it for ya
I highlighted the key areas for anyone with ADD.

Is that suppose to be funny? Making fun of people w/add is funny eh?
