pretty much any 4 cyl front wheel drive car will be good for a daily better. Foreign or Domestic....
Don't flame me for this. But for that price, you will NOT find a better (reliability, cost to repair, ease of repairs) choice than a 96-00 Honda Civic.
My 98 sedan 5spd car just ticked 260k miles, and STILL gets 33mpg COMBINED. It's fun - in the way a go kart is fun - not fast by any means but you can throw it around in the corners/s-curves and it will just grip and feels fun.
They're VERY cheap to modify/upgrade if you DO IT RIGHT... Throw a suspension and non-fart can exhaust on it and it doesn't increase the decibel level much, and will ride great and do awesome in autocross events if you wanted too...
I also have a 2000 Accord LX (auto) w/ 253k on it for $2500 and a older Civic 4 door with a stick that just came in. I'll have to check the price on the Civic.
hey how late are you open til tonight? if at all anyway. wife wants to do some car shopping tonight and would love to stop by.
hrm i get off at 3pm, ill call you if i can make it out that way before you close.5pm.. Sent pics to your phone.
whats everyones thoughts on the subaru?
I've thought of going with one of the subaru AWD cars because they would be good in snowy times and still get decent mileage, but I've always been concerned with the repair cost on parts and ease of repairs. I am a mechanic by trade, but have very little experience with those cars and it wouldn't be so straight forward to fix. I like keeping with what I know for a daily driver because when it needs something I don't have to spend a bunch of time dicking around with it to figure it out. I wanna be able to diag, get parts, and repair almost anything all in the same day. Otherwise whoever is counting on it to get to work could be screwed.
yeah that makes sense. im starting to like the honda idea more an more. i just think its time for a change to something different and a vehicle that is known for reliability. should i be worried about the insurance and high theft?
my wife told me no grand prix's
Be more worried about your wife telling what to and what not to buy!!!!!
I have one for you, but its no where like the rice burners your looking at. (or a countour...yuck)
Crown Vic police version.4.6L 3.7 axle/fresh trans with a shift kit. Fat sway bars and good acceleration from the gear make it fun to drive.
Fun as hell to drive (especially on my daily commute across 8 mile....every one clear out of you way and NOBODY pulls in front of you...lol)
You wont be able to keep you foot out of the gas though. Personally I think it could use a supercharger.
I'd put my civic against that boat in an autox / twisties .. far more fun there while getting 30mpg

Sure...would you like to try that head on or would you prefer a side impact? Besides....no body pulls over and slows down for you...lol
