advise for a daily driver?

I think I've also settled on the impala.....for some reason fueleconomy.gov gives it like 2-3 more mpg than the grand prix in highway rating. They aren't as attractive as the grand prix but I think they have more room.

Impala's are nice. Early ones like those you do want to see if it has had the intake manifold replaced with the newer unit recommended by GM though. Diff. part numbers.

I was in the same position as you a couple months ago, and I was actually looking for an impala also, but being a college kid I went the cheapest route I could find.
95' Civic EX, 4dr, 5 speed (125 HP, power everything, moon roof, ABS, cruise, 4 wheel disc brakes ect.)
$70/month-full coverage (19 years old, all in my name)
$44 for registration for the year
around 31 MPG city/41 MPG highway

Yes, I also disliked Hondas quite a lot also.

yeah i really liked the hondas but i just went a totally different route and bought a 2010 Hyundai Accent. my inlaws have one and i liked it but wasnt sure about the auto. i think im ok with it now. i found out that my wife kinda wanted to get a vehicle that she could eventually have and drive so the auto would be needed (plus she didnt like the impala we looked at in person at all, was an lt model too). i like the car, a bit small but surprisingly roomy even for a big guy. what impressed me was being able to fit 4 adults and a car seat and not have to have to move my seat forward at all. it has a 110hp dohc 1.6l which lacks some in the mid range rpms but likes to rev, it makes its power at 5800 i think. plus its got a 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty with zero deductible and free rental car, cant beat that. ill be making payments but they are low and the gas savings more than pays the cost and still saves money. its got stability, abs, side airbags, excellent sound system with xm and ipod/usb/audio inputs, an eco light that tells you when your not being fuel efficient, power everything, etc. pretty neat little gas saver. i guess we will see how i feel in a few months if i get sick of it or not. at least i still have the truck to use on the weekends.

oh and before i got it i test drove a toyota matrix, nissan versa, newer focus, hyundai sonata, hyundai accent 3 door with a stick (waay too small), and a bunch others.

congrats, those are supposed to be great value for the money. i was just about to recommend a civic. :)

yeah maybe in a few years when this one is paid off i will get a civic for me and give this one to my wife. just couldnt justify the extra cost of one when i like this one.
