99 GRAND PRIX SCANDAL BREAKTHROUGH

i never said anything about twisting my word.
i bought a car. he said it was perfectly fine and in running condition. IT WASNT. the motor blew in one freaking hour..
the sale/transaction was ILLEGAL

so saying i have no grounding to ask for my money back , thats crazy

Sounds like it was when you bought it. It didn't blow till an hour later.

I don't know the history of the car or what the dealer knew and didn't disclose.

My comments were related to you pretending you didn't have your parents consent and using that as a basis for invalidating the transaction. That's blatant fraud in my opinion.

What warranty is there for used cars? Seriously - I have no idea.

i wasnt going to pretend that his consent wasnt there. there is no HANDWRITTEN SIGNATURE of his consent. and if thats the case legally and the key to me getting my money back, then yes im going to use it. maybe if he would pay for the entire engine swap process instead of just half the price of the engine alone, then this whole legal thing would not be necessary

So the car ran great when you picked it up. Sounds like you're buddy went and even hot rodded it around.

I fail to see how this is the dealers fault.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitty yes, but if you had no warrenty I don't see how he's responsible.

Ya so my brother went and looks at 1999 Grand Prix Gt with 92,000 miles at Sky Auto Sales in Detroit.

Anyways, he ends up buying it, and an hour later on the way to troy it breaks down.

alright this is my brother typing.

"so when i first drove the car, it ran great. accelerated really nicely, had good pickup. the whole shabang. and so after an hour of looking and driving i decide to buy it. as i pull of the lot i floor it, and it sounds and runs great.

so i get home, clean in out wash it...and then i drive out to troy to surprise my buddy with my new car. he takes it for a spin and again it runs awesome. no noises, no hesitation.

so on my way home, i notice on the on-ramp to 75 that the acceleration is a little shaky..i figured its been sitting on the lot for a while it needs to warm up a bit. and then it starts driving fine.

so on the 75/696 interchange, when acceleration i notice that it is having a problem accelerating, a lot more hesitations than normal. so at groesbeck i am cruising at about 50mph. traffic clears up and i try to accelerate to get back to the speed limit. and suddenly the car starts to shake a bit and i cant get above 50mph. my speedo and rpm needles are jiggling and i cant go any faster, so i lay of the gas, cruise a little bit down to 40, and then try and accelerate again. i get back up to about 50 and i can go any faster, needles are bouncing between 4000-5000rmp and 45mph-50mph. so i decide its a real good time to pull over. so i pull over and just chill for a bit. my car starts to idle a little high around 2500, and then sinks to about 500 and is idiling there. so i wait about a minute and try to get back on the highway.

its kicks off fine and is accelerating smooth until about 35mph, and its starts that hesitation shit again....cant get any faster than that. and so i pull over again and sit for a second. turn the car off, go to turn it on and i get nothing. dashboard lights are on but no engine activity. i sit and wait for a few and go to start it up again...i keep turning the key and it struggles to turn over for about 5 seconds, and then starts. idles high, and when i go accelerate i get a WEEEIIIRRRD noise in under the hood....grinding/knocking/bad fan or something...and on the dash it says OIL LIFE % LOW....

WHAT THE ****.

i even washed her...and after hour and a half of driving she dies.

and that was the story of the little grand prix that COULDNT.

Any suggestions guys? Sounds kinda like we got ripped off..I'm gonna check the oil in the morning...got the car towed....Hope it's really not rod knock..

Any help would be appreciated.

It's about customer service and doing the right thing. Thats what it's about. I would understand if maybe the car died a week or maybe a month later, but 2 hours? Really? Thats horrible. And ya they don't have to do anything, but if they don't want a bad and shady name from me after I get done with them, then they better do their best to make this right.

How many miles were on the car? I agree that it is a bad situation and too bad that this happened. Clearly, something wasn't right with the car, but the question is whether they knew that or not. A car with 100+K is just waiting for a big issue to pop up, and the question is when.... On the other hand if the car has a 100+K you should be babying it, not revving it, and rapidly accelerating.

If the car had no audible noises and drove fine, it would be a hard case to win. Didn't they offer another car? Try and work with them and see what they will do to help...

Only 92k on a 3800v6 which I have known 4 people with the same motor making it way above 165k miles without this..

Since when is it bad to see if the car has pick-up? Don't make it seem like it was anything more.

Yes, in fact that is a big help. They likely don't owe you a cent. I would be very appreciative if the dealer has offered to cover anything.

How many miles did you put on the car before the motor blew?

Well, that sucks.

Did you test drive the car, and get on it before you bought it, and listen for and sounds/warning signs? Check the oil etc? It sucks to think this happened to you esp. if you were just driving it normally, which it sounds like you were....I would keep trying to work with them, and then get a lawyer, but in reality by the time you pay a lawyer, get the money back, plus pay a lawyer you could have probably gotten a new motor installed.

38 miles to be exact..38 very nicely driven miles.

and yes i test drove it. for about 10 minutes. NO red flags, no noises, good pickup..
punched it a few times to make sure it drove right.

im waiting to hear back from my friend who is a lawyer..
then ill make my decision

38 miles sounds pretty lame .. I would think a pre-purchase inspection could have uncovered that time-bomb. :(

my guess is that you probably don't have your own insurance, so being that your on your parents (if this is the case) is also another form of implied parental consent. While it is pretty shitty, its buyer beware on used cars bought as-is. I would try and use the info you have as "leverage" to get some of the repair covered, but if you go to court i'd be willing to be that is all the judgement you would get.....
