94 Mustang Project

Passenger side is about finished besides smoothing and deciding what i want to do with the frame rails. Firewall is about halfway done. I Have the driver side holes to fill and a few holes that are in the fender wells.

Little comparison shot from the passenger to the drivers side.

My VFN deck lid came today. It is much lighter then the stock one :D It's going to need a bit of trimming but overall I'd say its pretty decent. Definitely not a direct fit piece. I'm happy for the extra stock though I'm probably going to end up cutting it in two pieces I don't really see any other way once I mount my wing. The lower piece will end up being attached to the wing and the body and the upper with dzus fasteners to get to the fuel cell. That is the plan anyways. SprintPhoto_bxkbtp.jpg

Grant steering wheel came today :D Also on its way is my Kirkey pro drag seat. My light weight steering column and shaft from race craft along with a strange quick release steering wheel hub. Should be able to actually sit in the car soon.

Did some more work on the fire wall today!

Here I started the panel for the access hole for the wiper motor. I Didn't take any pictures of the cardboard templates I made first. I think I hate making the patch panels the worst out of this whole process.
After Welding it 3/4 of the way I bent it with a small hammer just working it slowly so it made a gradual bend.

All the holes welded up but not ground yet.

Here is a spot I think I did really well on won't even take much filler to smooth this out. There used to be 4 holes here 1 big one and 3 small ones around it. I have small 1/8 holes down barely even have to grind them after.

Here everything is ground down and primed I'll end up redoing it all later I just can't stand leaving bare metal showing.

3 holes left in the firewall then on to the drivers side fender. I'm cutting out all the big jaged round holes into squares/rectangles should go much smoother!

Its definately a time consuming job smoothing an engine bay. Good progress so far. Keep up the good work. You will be very glad you did it once its painted!

Yea The previous owner didn't make it any easier on me it has a ton of holes cut in it all over the place. I have a bunch of brackets and crap i need to cut off as well that he welded onto it. Ohh and Thanks!

Ok Firewall is finished. :D The black plastic cowl covers the other holes so I'm not really worried about them. I'm trying to be weight conscious or I could just be being lazy cause this isn't much fun =p the welding part I dig the grinding and making patches sucks. Grinding probably wouldn't be half bad except for my little 25gal air compressor.

I also weighed my new steering column compared to the stock one. looks like I cut out about 15 lbs hard to tell with such light weight though my cheapo scale didn't measure it that accurately ;)

more patches..... Got all the big patches cut out still have to grind and final fit them.... Decided to cut myself some jagged square holes should be much easier then the jagged round ones. One of the brackets was a pain in the ass to get off the back side ended up having to drill out the spot welds and pop it off with a crowbar.

Welding is finished!

Started grinding some of it... I think I'm going to go by an electric snag grinder.. I need one anyways and it will make grinding down the weld easier!
