Hey did you prime the engine with oil before cranking it over ? just wondering ? project looks great man. I had a 78 elcamino ss car along while back.
I had the converter pushed all the way back so when I mated the engine and trans I had to pull it forward to contact the flexplate... still havent had time to unbolt it and try to turn over the engine...I assume u seperated the engine and trans. Did you make sure that the converter was fully seated before you mated the two back together? I know it's a pain, but the next step is to seperate the engine and trans, and see how well the engine spins over then. I am guessing that you didnt have the converter seated all the way flush. Did the engine and trans meet up nicely or was there a gap and you had to force them back together?
thanks man! Im pleased with how its comming about... well.... before the engine issue that is.Hey did you prime the engine with oil before cranking it over ? just wondering ? project looks great man. I had a 78 elcamino ss car along while back.
never took any of the caps off... just loosened them a half turn and re-torqued... perhaps I popped one of the thrust bearings into the wrong spot...?I'd pull the pan and make sure you didn't put a rod or main cap on backwards before you pull the engine. Unless you gotta pull it out to get the pan off......
Unless one was loose before I touched it... Idk; I just think it would take a day to troubleshoot it if I had a day to devote to it! LolJust re-read most if this thread. I'm stumped. Re-check lifter preload, and as long as you didn't roll the engine over when the caps were loose I can't see the bearings moving in their saddles.
Thank you sir, yeah its been a crazy few weeksWow, lots goin on Kevin. Bummer about the bike, it was pretty cool. Glad you're ok tho. Congrats on the new truck, and gettin your 56 Ford back. We're having our annual car show at Kings July 27, you should bring it out.
Yes I removed it when I discovered it but I think because the flex plate was bolted to the torque converter with the pilot bushing in place it bent the flex plate. It would be odd that it would be the cause of my issue, but at this point I'm running out of options..Did you remove the pilot bushing?

Yeah no option at this point. Just wanted to rule out all the other possibilitys before pissing away the gasket money..Pull the heads already, what's another $25 in head gaskets at this point? The stick-then go is strange indeed.
