4.6L and ECU swap, have some questions and need some help

I am rounding up parts and info for my new project. I hate buying things then changing the direction of a project due to unforeseen obstacles. So im trying to get all of my ducks in a row right now before i start...

I have a 51 F1 that is getting a 99 cobra 4.6 DOHC swapped in. I have the entire engine (disassembled) from intake to oil pan, accessories to flywheel. I do not have the engine wiring harness yet. It will be a manual trans with minimal other electronics...

I see it as having two main routes:

Carbed, intake will be expensive and carb wont be too cheap either but it would be rather easy. I would have to get a system to drive the coils for spark tho

or stay with fuel injection (which is what i would prefer to do) I can find ECUs and wiring harnesses on ebay/CL etc. and graft the harness to fit the truck where and how i need it or i can go with a Ron Francis prebuilt harness ($860) and have my ECU reflashed to eliminate the PATS ($350)

does anyone else know of any better lower cost options?

Use 97-98 Mark VIII ECU and engine harness. Have an SCT dealer burn a chip to switch off all the auto trans functions, as well as PATS, and most of the emission stuff. Easy peasy and no cobra tax.

im working on an 01 ECU for 150 bucks.. not too bad considering they are all asking 400 or so.

I didnt know they could do the PATS with the SCT stuff.

What would you guys recommend running for an ignition switch?

I bet you could get an engine & body harness from Nasty89Notch. He's got all sorts of mustang stuff for sale.
I think it would be pretty cool to have an obd2 port under the dash on a 50 year old truck. Also beaing able to read codes would be nice.

yea, thats what i was thinking. I am not sure how much work it would be to get a body harness incorporated to work in there for the bare bone no options the truck has. a good schematic and some time, i can figure out what i could "trim out of the picture"

A few years ago a guy on ebay had some cool dohc 4.6 5.4 sheet metal carburetor manifolds. One of them was three 2brl carbs. I think the price was around 500 bucks.

I have a ecu and harness out of a 2000 gt 5 speed car that was tuned at alternative if you are interested andbit would work for you shoot me a pm. I know there are a few changes that need to be made tobthe engine harness but frombwhatbi gathered it was primarly extending a few plugs.

I'm about to pull a fast classic efi sequential off a 4.6 dohc. Has a base tune that will start the motor. Pm me.

for the people who have used a stock computer and wiring harness, what did you need to have the OBDII Data link connector? would i have to get a dash harness and disect it keeping just the DLC?
