2016 Lions thread........discuss or discust?

Stafford does suck...this division has 1 good qb in it, the other 3 get yards and td's, but really do suck. Stafford's side arm throws annoy the shit out of me.

Oh thats a dallas helmet...thought it was a lions helmet

To be fair (and I'm sure Detroitstyle will gloss right over this), Stafford has played really well the last few games. That win Sunday him and Jim Bob put the team on their back and got it done with out a lot of help. He's played really well the past two games. His touchdown to interception ratio is off the charts. You have to give him credit where credit is due.

Now this is not to say that they're going to make the playoffs or even win a game. But if they can get their defense in working order and have any shred of consistency they might have a shot at a 9-6 season.

You're starting to see the light.

I've never (despite what others have inferred) said that Stafford is the best QB in the league. What I have said consistently is that Stafford is a damn good QB and by far the best option that the Lions could ever have under center... because the guys who ARE better than him, aren't going anywhere.... so it's foolish to say that the Lions should be looking elsewhere.

Would you rather have Romo or Stafford? Would you rather have a top pick next season to take a QB and the savings that brings you, or pay Stafford again?

Damn good QB? I wouldn't go that far. He's mediocre and average at best. He's gonna get a wr killed out there because of his lack of ability and lack of ability to read a def. Oh and his up the middle behind the receiver throws....fuck Stafford.

LOL, you're insane.

You'd rather trade him away for a shot at a top round draft pick? A guy who's numbers, in his first 7 years in the league are directly comparable to Tom Brady's?

Here's a list of every QB taken in the past 10-12 years in the first or second round...

Eli Manning
Philip Rivers
Ben Roethlisberger
JP Losman
Alex Smith
Aaron Rodgers
Jason Campbell
Vince Young
Matt Leinert
Jay Cutler
Kellen Clemens
Tavaris Jackson
JaMarcus Russell
Brady Quinn
Kevin Kolb
John Beck
Drew Stanton
Matt Ryan
Joe Flacco
Brian Brohm
Chad Henne
Mark Sanchez
Josh Freeman
Pat White
Sam Bradford
Tim Tebow
Jimmy Clausen
Cam Newton
Jake Locker
Blaine Gabbert
Christian Ponder
Andy Dalton
Colin Kaepernick
Andrew Luck
Robert Griffin
Ryan Tannehill
Brandon Weedon
Brock Osweiler
EJ Manuel
Geno Smith
Blake Bortles
Johnny Manziel
Teddy Bridgewater
Derek Carr
Jimmy Garoppolo
Jameis Winston
Marcus Mariotta
Jarod Goff
Carson Wentz

Over 50% of them are COMPLETE busts... a few of them are average or yet to be determined. A few are comparable to Stafford and only ONE is clearly better than Stafford, and that's Ben Roethlisberger.

Do you get the point here? LOOK AT ALL OF THOSE FAILURES, picked by people who know a shitload more about football than you or I... and you'd rather gamble away a guy who's well on his way to HALL OF FAME numbers (please feel free to compare them and try to dispute this) for a total crapshoot. LOL. You crazy.

1. He has never been more accurate (or thrown shorter)

Stafford currently ranks first in the NFL in adjusted completion rate at 80.1 percent — by far the highest rate of on-target passes of his career. (Note: New England’s Tom Brady would rank ahead of Stafford in this category had he played enough snaps to qualify.) It has extended to all facets of his game, as he has been very accurate on the rare deep shots he takes (more on that next) and also when under pressure of his opponent’s pass rush.

Bottom line

The Lions are far from a perfect team, in particular on the defensive side of the ball. The Redskins could give them a lot of trouble in Week 7, and we haven’t yet seen Stafford face an elite defense this season. But the improvements Stafford has made since Cooter took over coordinating the Detroit offense have been very impressive, and right now, Stafford deserves recognition as one of the very best QBs in football this season.

So how is it that Detroit is still 3-3 heading into this week's game against Washington? There is one reason more than any other: Matthew Stafford.

The eighth-year quarterback has produced at a high level almost all season, despite inconsistent protection, a flagging run game, and significant drop issues from his wideouts.

Stafford has compiled a QB rating of 106.0, which is third in the league. And he's completing 68.9 percent of his passes, which is second. That's impressive, considering all the issues around him, not to mention the loss of Calvin Johnson and the early season disappearance of Golden Tate.

And it's all the more impressive when considering he's also been victimized by more drops than any quarterback in the NFL.

Of course, Stafford is no stranger to big numbers. He's one of five men to throw for 5,000 yards in a season, and was the fastest ever to 20,000 yards. He will play in the 100th game of his career Sunday against Washington, and do so with more yards and completions than any quarterback in history at this point in his career.

The numbers have been there for a long time -- and his critics are quick to remind you of that. They say it's a lot of empty production for a perennial loser, and there was a time when that was true.

But this is different.

He's more efficient than ever, and making fewer mistakes. He has 14 touchdowns and just four interceptions this year, and two of those picks weren't even his fault. (On one, Eric Ebron had the ball swiped out of his hands by a defensive back. On another, Tate ran the wrong route.)

I bolded the key parts for you. Saying that he's mediocre is just ridiculous. I mean, come on... he's literally on pace to break 2 of the 3 biggest career stats (yards and completions) records that a QB could have? It's laughable to say he's anything less than a great QB
