2013 College Football Megathread

because of disclosure laws there's nothing to say what he did. Technically speaking, urinating in public is considered sexual miscoduct, though i doubt that was the reason for his dismissal. The article indicates he did something akin to sexual harassment. In 2009 there was a legal investigation into an alleged rape. The police never found anything incriminating and he was never charged. It was a he said she said situation. Knowing how the OSCR works (Based on second hand information of someone who used to work for the OSCR while a student at U of M which I trust) these proceedings happen extremely fast. It's no an investigative branch, only a judgmental branch. So if a woman wanted to say someone raped he, she would have to provide enough evidence before the OSCR would even act. The OSCR makes decisions within weeks of evidence being provided. This is an auditable process by the NCAA for student athletes, so I doubt there was any cover up or if there was, we will see an investigation by the NCAA.

Michigan reviewed and rewrote their guidelines to a stricter standard. Unlike other schools which their coaches and administrations lie about things to cover for their students.

Mattison walks in on Narduzzi recruiting session and interrupts it. Pretty funny.

On the first day contact was allowed during the latest recruiting period under NCAA rules, Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and Alabama assistant Bobby Williams were patiently biding their time at the school.McDowell arrived at school, entered a tiny office and sat against the left wall in the middle of a row of chairs. At a small round table, Narduzzi began speaking, talking about football, about life, about his future in both areas — the door closed for just the two of them.
“Michigan State was here, then Michigan came, they just walked right in and sat down,” McDowell said. “That was pretty funny. I was just sitting there watching … (Coach) Narduzzi was sitting right here. It just all stopped. Then (Mattison) was like, ‘Oh, is this a bad time?’ It made me laugh.”

Like Hoke saying Gibbons wouldn't be playing in the Bowl due to family problems 9 DAYS after the school expelled him?

obviously what he should have done was the instant he was notified of the decision he should have ran out into the streets yelling about it. Never mind legal ramifications or appeals processes.

according to the results, it appears Mattison.

What results? Mattison didn't have the #1 defense this year. Who on that defense is going to get drafted. MSU will have a 1st rounder and two or three more after that. As for grading classes, how have those Top 10 classes worked out for you...?

How about answering a question honestly? 'He's no longer affiliated with the school and I can't say anything more than that...'

Just because a letter is dated a date, doesn't mean it's delivered that time. This isn't as cut and dry as you want it. While I would have liked to see more openess around the situation, the fact is that there's more to it than just "Can I say he's expelled or not".

Kinda sounds more like he was accused of rape, and UM kept it swept under the rug his whole career. Once the cat appeared to be out of the bag, and/or his services were no longer needed, they expelled him......Maybe he should have transferred to Forced Sex University.

At the very least, it seems pretty suspicious, even for the oh-so-self-righteous University of Michigan....:dunno:

The timeline as i am aware of it.

2009, accused of rape. He said it was consensual, she says it wasn't. At that time, the universities policies were to not do investigations and there had to be interaction with the victim. AAPD found nothing to prove one way or the other that Gibbons had raped. The case was dismissed.
2013, University raises standard to allow it to do investigations and could go 'back in time' if new evidence was found. It no longer required the interaction of the victim.

Which of those rule changes are applicable to Gibbons very likely would explain everything, whether a cover-up or no wrong doing. The problem is that without releasing all of the documentation, there's no way to know that, and you can't do that without releasing information about the victim, which is illegal. It's also illegal in the sense that he was never charged in a court of law. U of M, is not the overreaching rule.

I'm not sure what you expect the school to do, or why you think it's a cover up. Answer these questions and tell me you can show proof that there's a coverup.

1. Why now? What advantage does it do UM to keep this under wraps. If you say his career at U of M, that's stupid. This happened in 2009. That was a long time ago and he had no illustrius career at UM. It's not like he's the QB, so the school, even if it wanted to cover it up, had no reason to do so.
2. Why wait till the last 2-3 games of his career? If this had been covered up for so long, why not just keep it covered up and lie to authorities if anything ever did come up. It's not like it didn't work for other schools in the past.
3. The legal investigation found no proof of criminal activity in the situation. He wasn't charged. Before you say AAPD is in on the coverup, again, tell me why. We're talking the kicker who up to that point hadn't done jack squat for the schools record. There's no reason whatsoever to cover it up. THere's also absolutely no proof that there was ever a coverup by AAPD in any situation ever. There's more proof to the contrary, which I have posted before.

So explain it to me since you both see an obvious coverup. How could the school have done this differently? Use both of your legal degrees and be sure to lay it out clearly.

So in other words, a junior or a senior can rape a female student because UM moves at a snails pace? You don't think Brandon and Hoke knew what was going on? RichRod? There is no law that says they needed to keep Gibbons on the team. He should have been kicked off the team. The 'teammate' who threatened the victim should have been thrown out too. This was about a rape. Not about grab ass. The AAPD looked at this as a she said, he said. If Brandon and Hoke didn't know what happened, that's even worse. You poke fun at Tressell and what got him fired. That was over tattoos and gold pants. What's worse? Getting free tattoos or raping your fellow students?

If that's the case, then people would start throwing accusations around about any athlete because the coach should just can them. You're trying so hard to make this into something when there is no evidence that there is anything to be made out of it. Meanwhile, we have video evidence of a recruit body slamming a guard at school and Dantonio still hasn't pulled his scholarship offer. THere's more evidence there than anything dealing with Gibbons. The school adjusted their basis for action to a more strict stance and acted accordingly. You're just mad because of who the school is and they've shown more moral gumption than yours.

THe AAPD seems to have of history of looking the other way....Just saying.....

Show me. I've already outlined all of the high profile top players they have had no problem dealing with. I'm sure they will go out of their way to cover for the kicker who up to that point hadn't done a thing yet.
