after the Championship game I'll let it go for a little bit, then I'll close it and open up another one.

Only this time we will have a Michigan thread, and then one for everyone else. I'm not sharing a thread with these mouth breathers. This is Michigan for Christ's sake....

Exactly. I know Justin wants one, but there's no reason to. It's not like 99.999% of this thread wasn't about michigan, or that in the past, the Michigan threads didn't turn into general college football threads anyway.

Other AQ conferences>Big East=West Virginia=Big East Champion>Clemson>Virginia Tech...

And somewhere in the MIDDLE of that...

OH NO! What does it all mean then? Well if Clem destroyed VT, and we barely beat VT, but we trucked Nebraska, which shut down MSU which beat Minnesota, which beat Iowa, which beat Pitt, which beat Syracuse, which beat WV. So basically it means we're the ones kicking the crap out of Clemson! I'm so glad of the transitive property in sports!

In case you didn't pick up on the sarcasm, such arguments are ridiculous. You can validly compare competition on the macro level, but comparing single games, especially big bowl games that are played a month after the regular season ends, is just an exercise in futility. So let them say what they say knowing it's all just butthurt.

Mine was sarcastic. "But MSU lost to Notre Dame and Nebraska...". I agree such arguments are ridiculous.

And now to really chap some MSU asses:

Michigan, as I wrote earlier today, has been given renewed hope by Brady Hoke. After a disappointing 7-6 2010 season, he came in and led the Wolverines to an 11-2 season in 2011, capped off with a Sugar Bowl win over Virginia Tech last night in overtime.
Not the prettiest win in Michigan's history, but a Sugar Bowl victory over a higher-ranked team is a victory no matter how you look at it. The bowl win puts Michigan in a good spot for preseason rankings.
Teams that return in 2012 to be national contenders are Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia (favored to win the SEC East), LSU, Oklahoma and Michigan.
Alabama loses Trent Richardson, and Fox Sports has five 'Bama players projected to go in the first round of the NFL draft. Oklahoma State loses Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon. Stanford loses Andrew Luck.
Michigan keeps Denard Robinson (likely a preseason Heisman favorite alongside Matt Barkley), and opens the season against the Crimson Tide. The Tide will have some key personnel losses on defense, and Michigan will have the first opportunity to capitalize on those losses.
Even if Michigan loses to 'Bama, they aren't out of the picture. Michigan will have games against Notre Dame, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State and most likely a B1G Championship Game at the end of the season.
If the Michigan offense can hang some early points on 'Bama, the Wolverines may get in the heads of the relatively youthful Tide defense. Remember, there are only a few Tide players on the team that remember why 2010 went so badly for Alabama.
Michigan has to hope that they can be the ones to fire up the Tide by handing them a season-opening loss on national television. Whoever wins that game will enjoy the LSU-Oregon type of attention from 2011's season opener.
Michigan's only losses in 2011 came from Michigan State and Iowa on the road. In 2012, both those teams travel to the Big House.
If Michigan takes care of business at home, then they become the favorite outside the SEC for the BCS title game.
Four of the teams I mentioned as contenders are out of the SEC. Unless another ridiculous year of everyone losing happens, only one of those will be in the title game next year.
So, in short, can Michigan make the title game next year? Yes. A victory over Alabama would certainly help them out, but a title game rematch against an SEC team (even the Tide) would not be out of the question.
Especially if it's a close game on September 1, 2012.

Obviously still drunk from his night on Burbon St.

• Barrett Sallee, collegefootballnews.com: "If the Sugar Bowl taught us two things, they are that the BCS absolutely has to get rid of AQ status and the rule limiting access to two teams per conference. Arkansas is the No. 6 team in the final BCS standings, and is ineligible to compete in a BCS bowl. Boise State is the No. 7 team in the final BCS standings, and got passed over for a BCS bowl. Kansas State is the No. 8 team in the final BCS standings, and got passed over for a BCS bowl. Any combination of those three teams would have made for a fabulous football night in New Orleans. Instead, we got Hokies vs. Wolverines, and most televisions were probably turned off before halftime. The gap between those three teams and No. 11 Virginia Tech and No. 13 Michigan is the size of a bottomless hurricane a Pat O’Briens. Bottom line, neither Virginia Tech nor Michigan deserved this stage, and they proved it with a listless, sloppy and thoroughly unwatchable Sugar Bowl. It was a poorly executed, close game."

I don't think USC has NC hopes next year. There's a lot up in the air about who is coming back etc...

uh Barkley is back along with pretty much the whole offence (play maker wise, I know they lost some lineman), Stanford will be down, same with Oregon. They should whoop the Pac-12. Same could be said about them mentioning OU. Landry jones has made no comment about the draft and theres lots of internal problems in Norman right now.
