i'm just wondering out loud if lloyd carr might be available............:mmm:

Gary Moeller might be available...

Another bright spot is all the Spread Option players committed for the Class of 2011. I wonder if Michigan can get out of that game with Alabama so they can get another 1AA team to play.

Remember, year after year, when Ryan would cry about Lloyd Carr and his horrible "bend don't break" defense?

NCAA overall defensive rankings:

2003: Michigan #7
2004: Michigan #38
2005: Michigan #22

I would give anything to have Carr back....

I'm glad Carr is gone. Despite what our team may have turned into, at least we are trying to change things for the better. Who knows. If RRod gets another year there's hope that the D will step up. If he's gone, I hope we find someone who runs the same offense, or else the last 3 year will be nothing but a blip as we start all over again.

If RRod gets fired and they hire someone with a new type of offense, U of M football may never recover. I don't understand why they didn't hire someone who had the same type of system in the first place. Look at ND....I think they have it rougher than we do lol.

Cause they watched spread style offences pick apart Big 10 schools and thought If they could adapt that offence they would be dominant in the big 10.

Syracuse under Greg Robinson:

2005: 1-10
Defense = #70 in the country
2006: 4-8
Defense = #76 in the country
2007: 2-10
Defense = #104 in the country
2008: 3-9
Defense = #102 in the country

EXIT GREG ROBINSON:

2009: 4-8
Defense = #82 in the country
2010 : 6-2 and counting
Defense = #14 in the country

What do we see? An overall record and a defense that got worse and worse under Robinson and started improving immediately after he left.

Ryan? Care to address this?

I'm glad Carr is gone too. Obviously they didn't do a good job in replacing him, but his time was up.

The offense is what I thought it would be. With a decent D they'd compete for the big ten title right now. RR has never had a great defense. I think this horrible D is the result of a perfect storm of Carr's bad last few years of recruiting, RR's focus on offensive recruiting when he started, terrible coaching, and player attrition. They've had how many safeties leave the program? Turner was supposed to be the man, Vlad, Dorsey couldn't get in. They land Cambell, a 5 start recruit, and now they want to switch him to O-line because he "doesn't like to tackle". If you've got a decent base, you can survive one...two...three setbacks. This team didn't have a good base and then on top of just a shitty coaching job they keep having to toss out players with zero experience. Who knows....is it on the coaches or the players that that Turner and Cambell suck? Everyone in the country wanted those kids. They had talent, right? I don't know.

Greg Robinson should get with Kevin Cosgrove and both should stop trying to be defensive coordinators together. Start a support group or something.

To me in this situation maybe the head coach should be kept around and the defensive coordinator should be canned. When a defensive coordinator like Robinson or Cosgrove is there and you can look at teams they've been with and see a trend in them turning good defenses into terrible ones and then see a quick turn around when they leave, maybe the head coach isn't to blame as much as people make them out to be.

I agree with both Brad and Josh. I hated Ron English more than Carr. To be honest, if Carr wasn't such a pansy when it came to play calling and playing not to lose instead of playing to win he'd have been perfect.

Greg Robinson was also the DC with Denver when they won their two Super Bowls. Not to many outside of Rich Rod use a 3-3-5. Robinson has never coached it and he hired none of the coaches. The D falls right on Rich Rod's shoulders, not Robinson's. And there is no talent.
