Are there some rules on when schools can talk to guys on the coaching staff of another school? I know the NFL has rules about that but does college? Just curious. If there aren't rules, you think people in Michigan's athletic department are contacting guys like Harbaugh and checking the interest level in preparation for firing Rich Rod yet?

No specific time, but they have to ask the schools AD for permission (professional courtesy). Harbaugh said last year he wasn't interested. I think he's looking at the NFL. It would still take 3 or 4 years to turn that mess around. A good coach to go after would be Brady Hoak with San Diego State (MWC). He took over a 2-10 team and they are going to a bowl (6-2). They should have beaten Missouri (24-27) earlier this year. He had Ball State at 12-0 before losing to Buffalo in the MAC Championship game. And if you don't grab him, that will be the next embarassment when SDSU kickes UM's ass in Ann Arbor next year.

I didn't realize the 12-0 Ball State coach left. That explains the dive they took after that year, assuming he left before the following season. Can't say I keep up witht he Ball State coaching carousel

The MAC is a stepping stone. The coach at Buffalo, Turner Gill, is now the coach at Kansas. I wanted Urban Meyer while he was at Bowling Green when the Spartans signed John L. Smith. Hey, that's an idea... Have Michigan hire John L. Smith!!!

I'm well aware of Turner Gill (you're talking to the resident Nebraska guy).

 to Michigan hiring John L Smith.

Here's an idea, hire Frank Solich from Ohio!

You're all wrong. The ghost of Bo Schembechler is going to come to Harbaugh and Tom Brady in their dreams and tell them to come to Michigan to coach. Harbaugh will head coach, Brady will be the Offensive coordinator/qb coach, and Harbaugh will hire Mike Ditka to coach the D and michigan will never lose another football game, ever.

At least that's what I've been praying to Bo for.

John L. Smith? His heart can barley handle beating ND on a trick play. How would he with stand the buckeyes? :D

Why would you hire Ditka??? He was a former TE. If you want to hire some old tough guy, get Ditka's former defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan.

As for Harbaugh, he's just waiting for an NFL offer from a decent team. Brady still has another 3 Super Bowls to win.

fire rich rod, go after harbaugh get shot down then hire les Miles so I can enjoy another 4-5 years of bad michigan teams

I think UM should fire Dave Brandon as AD and hire Matt Millen to run things. It'll get him off the Spartan telecasts... :D

Rich Rod in trouble? The first few lines says it all. I think RR is toast...

Athletic director Dave Brandon isn't ready to share his thoughts on the Rodriguez-led program that has won just four of 20 conference games and 13 of 32 overall.

"I'll comment on the state of the program after the season," Brandon said Monday morning. "I know the coaches and the players are working hard to get better."

The Wolverines seem to be getting worse on defense, giving up at least 34 points in each Big Ten game after opening the season by allowing Connecticut and Notre Dame to score 34 points combined.

"I don't know how much improvement you're going to get during a season," Rodriguez said.

Michigan's secondary was decimated before the season started. Cornerback Donovan Warren chose to skip his senior year to enter the NFL draft, cornerback Troy Woolfolk broke his ankle and other potential contributors either transferred or couldn't get into the school.

The results haven't been pretty.

Michigan's defense ranks 117th in major college football -- out of 120 teams -- against the pass, giving up 290.5 yards a game; 106th in total defense, allowing 440.3 yards a game; 110th in first downs, giving up 184; and teams are averaging 30 points against the unit, sinking it to 89th in the nation.

I think what is says, is barring an upset of Wisconsin and/or Ohio State, he's gone. Which just means Michigan will be in even WORSE shape when they bring in somebody who doesn't know the spread and can't utilize RR's players that are on their way to figuring things out...

Does your defense count as "bend don't break" if you're 89th in points allowed and in the 100s of every other defensive category? :D

I don't think Lloyd would come back in Michigan even remotely offered it to him which they wouldn't. It'd take him 3 to 4 years to get his players in place and by that time he'd be fighting with Joe Paterno for the babyfood and walker.

Bowden was under cryogenic freezing every week after the game till kick off of the next weeks game. Only time he came out of it was to pay off players to come play for him, or to payoff judges to release inmates to come to college.
