A friend of mine just posted this up on a local forum and im just dumbfounded on how dumb some people can be

Ok, there is this Jeep that has come into the shop twice now. It's an 88 wrangler that's been lifted and looks pretty ruff. It is owned by a woman that tells us, "I don't know a thing about cars and stuff, but I take it "Off Road" all the time. (Shoot me in the head).

The first time, suspension parts have fallen off and she would like us to put them back on. And, she would like us to tighten everything underneath because EVERYTHING sounds loose.

I tell her, "No Maam, we are not a suspension shop. We have no experience with lifted suspensions." (Also, I do not want to be held liable for the piece of crap jeep).

Second time, she would like us to replace her brake pads. (Oh, and to tighten up everything underneath.) She says they are in the back of the jeep. I cannot find them, but Jordan does. They are not in a box, they are loose on wet carpet. Completely soaked and rusted. I don't want us to install these questionable pads. Kevin says he is going to pull off a wheel to see if they are even the right pads. This is what we saw.

She has worn her brakes down so badly, that it has shaved ALL of the rotor surface off. I have never, ever seen brakes as bad as these. The caliper was completely over-extended and ruined.

This is all I needed to see. I completely refused this shop to touch this jeep. We told her to take it to a Professional Brake Shop and we didn't recommend her driving anymore.

See, I have to keep the shop in mind when I make these decisions. I cannot afford to let this shop take on a job that can potentially turn bad on us and bite us in the ass. She could have more issues and blame them on us since we last "touched it". Maybe I'm a bit jaded from Wattsound. People were always trying to get something for free from us using these same tricks

You can refuse to let her leave with the vehicle if it is unsafe to drive. Its the law.
I had one like that once. The guy said it just started making noise about 2 miles ago. Pulled the wheels and they looked like those pics. The caliper piston was ground down and leaking too. The fluid trail went all the way down the road. Don't know how he stopped

my brother and i fixed a dodge ram this past fall like that on the front. it had a leaky front caliper leak.. and thats what we found.

Is that your friend in the Bottom pic ? IS his name Jason ? he looks like the guy i worked with out at the Midas In grand Blanc. having cars come in with the rotors ground down to the fins was no uncomon, hell we had one come in with it ground down into the rotors and had worn THROUGH the brake pad and pad backing plate and was using the CALIPER as a Brake pad.. yea, new pads, rotor, calipers and other misc. he was back on the rd to fuck it up once again.. I love hearing "Its making a noise in the brakes fix it, i dont care how much it costs"'

PS: if that is jason he dont work at the Midas in Grand Blanc no more.. Our shop was not EVEN CLOSE to that clean LOL

I found the same problem on a wrangler too once (was replacing the brakes)... I couldn't believe it...

I'm thinking that the rotors for the wranglers were poorly designed?

Most of the newer jeep (97-04?) rotors are composite, and complete junk. Everywhere I've worked the famous jeep rotors have been encountered. They come out of the factory usually under spec and warp easily. The cutomers dont understand, and explaining it isnt any easier. I'll never be a salesman.

Most of the time they dont buy shit, dont ask me why they bother having the vehicle looked at.

No but a good 50% of the drivers/car owners out there were POORLY DESIGNED ! Oh its making a noise.. hmmm it'll go away.

Same thing happens 90% of the time we got AutoZone rotors. they're warped right out of the box.. Could be from them storing them wrong too ?

i had a bmw once that the guys complaining of a vibration.. So he drives it over an i go to drive it around the block went two feet and stopped wa like wtf the whole damn car was shaking..

pull it in the garage and yank all the tires off to find the rotor broke in half like all the vent vains sheered and there was two discs left.. i was like wtf and you drove this for how long like that!
